My PC starts lagging when I play games all of a sudden. It seems to be a problem with the GPU since it downclocks itself to extremely low values (10 to 20 times lower). If I restart the problem is sometimes gone and then pops up after a while. I've already re-installed drivers a couple of times which seemed to work for the moment but the problem keeps returning. Alt-tabbing also seems to make this happen sometimes. It's really weird and I don't really know what to do anymore. (By the way I have bitdefender as anti-virus)

Please help me :)

Yes I've done that with msi afterburner now and then. It justs downclocks itself. But as I'm typing this for instance the clock speeds are all normal and working...

Well that is your problem, when it runs at a unstable clock and it hits a high load it then it downclocks it self to preserve its life.
All you need to do is just lower your frequency.

Oh but it doesn't run at higher speeds now than stock and it still happens. I just meant I've done it in the past now and then..
Also just now I alt-tabbed (which didn't seem to cause a problem), but then I restarted chrome and then it downclocked itself. Once it downclocks it doesn't go away until a restart...

I have a GTX 460 so the warranty is long gone, but are there not any other solutions then just declaring the card broken? Don't you want some temperatures or something else or a bios reset or whatever?
