Sudden high cpu idle temperature

While playing a game, I noticed that the frame rate was rather choppy and lower than normal and so I tried to investigate what the problem was. Eventually, I shut my computer down and opened up the bios menu. It said that the cpu temp was at 90 degrees Celsius. Seeing this I then shut the computer down again and let it sit to cool for a while. Later, I came back and started the computer back up and the cpu temp had dropped to about 60 degrees Celsius and started to climb rapidly while still in the bios (maxing at 99). The cpu temperature has never been an issue before (has been around 30 at idle) and I haven't been messing around with the internals at all. Any ideas as to what is going wrong?

i noticed that twice with my same cpu and h110. one time i had moved my case and i guess there was enough vibration to worsen the contact between the heatsink and cpu so all i had to do is re apply the thermal paste. your temp spike is a bit to high for that so what i would do is look first to make sure the pump is working. take the side panel off and listen you should hear it, if not try plunging it in somewhere else. if the pump works check for leaks and make sure your fans work. if everything is fine with the radiator and fans then check your bios to see if some setting was changed on the fan controller.

Check bios for settings which might be causing the problem and try other apps for reading temps such as core temp.hw monitor etc.Also hav u oc'ed yet?

Fans all seem to be working and the feed line of the h60 seems to be cool but the return line is very warm. I also haven't really messed with any OC settings. I turned on the "OC genie" at one point but it's not on now.

I want to say yes. I can't really hear it over the fans but the feed line of the system is significantly cooler than the return line.

Sounds like a BIOS issue, have you tried resetting your BIOS to defaults ?

Failing that it might be time to fully investigate your coolers contact with the CPU, and as other have mentioned conclude if your cooler is working properly.

if you touch your pump you may feel slight vibration

I have tried to reset the bios to the default settings (didn't work) and there is some vibration through the pump (whether or not its just coming from the fans mounted on it I'm not sure). Before I take the cpu cooler off and examine the connection between it and the cpu, I would like to hear back from NCIX so that I don't mess with the warranty I have on the system trying to figure out the problem. As soon as I do hear back though, that will be my next step.

there are no fans on the pump, the pump is the part on top of the cpu.

Wow, sorry I was thinking about the radiator. It doesn't really feel like the pump is vibrating at all.

After seeing that the pump wasn't vibrating, I ordered a new H60. After installation (plugged it into the same spot) everything seems to be working well.
