Sudden lag in online games

Hi

Since I've bought my pc (gtx 770, i7 4770, 16gb ram, z87-k and windows 7) , I've been able to play games such as BF4 and ARMA 3 on the highest setting without any lag what so ever, that is, until a couple of days ago. Every multiplayer game that I've tried to play the last couple of days has been lagging severely and I've got no idea why.

I've already tried checking the temperature while the games are running (GPU around 75C and CPU around 70C), I've tried checking if there's any processes using all of my CPU or RAM, I've checked my internet connection (broadband, 50 down 5 up, ping ias around the range from 10-50), I've updated my graphics drivers, I've scanned my pc for viruses and I've used CCleaner, but everything seems to be in perfect shape.

Any help on the matter will be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, it seems that your PC is not the issue here.

It may be ISP's fault, there are quite a lot of attacks out there, such as DDOS attacks, those really kill the internet's performance.

Did you change any settings in the router control panel by any chance?

No, I don't believe I have. Are you thinking of any settings in particular, that might have caused the issue?

You could try to open ports for the games in the router settings, enable the games via Microsoft Firewall, shut down anti-virus while you're playing.

Shut down any unnecessary programs such as torrent or Messenger.

Perhaps somebody is using up bandwidth from the router, even a phone can make a difference.

It seems that it's neither the firewall or the anti-virus, nor is there any unnecessary programs in the background. But I'll try opening ports for the games tommorow and see if that fixes the problem.

Sadly, it seems that opening ports to the games didn't help. Do you have any other ideas?

You can do drastic measures, reset all the router's definitions, if that doesn't work, do a system restore of windows, to when the games used to work properly, if THAT doesn't work, you could try to do a complete Windows reinstall.

If neither solution solves the problem, the problem is not in your house.

It seems that the issue have solved itself in some of the games (not sure if it'll stay that way though), but not all, for example, BF4 and CS:S are still laggy. Just letting you know in case it changes anything.

Looks like those games have to upgrade their servers, BF4 will get new high performance servers soon, to solve general lagginess and rubber banding. It was an article in Toms Hardware.

Alright, I'll wait and see if that solves the problem, thanks.

I just found out, that I might not be the only one in the house with this problem. My brother, too, complains about lag.
