Win10 x64 (build 1903) gigabyte z77 3dh with an i5 CPU, 12gb ddr, gt550ti and a 750w modular psu.

All was running fine until a few weeks ago when I lost ethernet connection, PC had been moved so i thought reseat card. That worked.
I have now lost connection again and now i cant get device manager to recognise the cards existence.
Here's what I've tried.
  1. Reseated the network adapter, not using on board
  2. Tried the other pcie x1 slots
  3. Made sure graphics card is in the x16 slot
  4. Refreshed windows
I'm guessing the most probable outcome is that it's time to get the wallet out and update the mb & CPU but I want to make sure I haven't missed the obvious

NIC - Network interface card?
I did buy a new card and I've tried a known working card from my sons PC in all 3 pci e slots and in all cases, not recognised in dev man.
If these have gone bad, the thought comes to mind, how long before something critical dies.

As in my first post, am I missing the obvious
