Sudden no display on monitor

I was using my computer when I had to use the bathroom, rather than shutting the whole computer down I just turned of the monitor. When i got back and turned it back on, there was nothing being displayed on the screen. How can i fix this and will this be a problem with the monitor that i have?

I have already tried this, as well as unplugging and re plugging the HDMI cable from the back of the monitor and the back of the pc

Does the power light on the monitor turn on at least? if so try connecting a laptop into it via hdmi if possible. run a test of some kind with another device to see if it is your gpu or the monitor itself. The monitor could likely have a short.

it seems to be displaying my laptop just fine, so that means the gpu is messed on my computer, right?
any suggestions on how to fix?
