So I play minecraft, and on one server, I usually get 58-67ms, and now I get like 174ms to that server. This is happening with every single server I try. However, sometimes my ping is perfectly fine and will just go back to normal. This problem started late last night, and I fixed it somehow, I dont even know how, it just stopped; and now it's happening again. But sometimes it stops completely and goes back to normal. My Ping is perfectly normal on speedtest.net, and upload and download speed is strong as ever, at an amazing 23ms ping, and 84up and down. Also strangely enough, I went into CS:GO and my ping was just fine. (55ms) But I open minecraft right after and the ping is awful. So is this a problem with minecraft? I went on CMD and tried pinging various websites. my ping to google and youtube was just fine, but some websites were terrible. I dont know what the issue is. (I pinged skype.com and got 147ms) Please help 🙁

Solution
Run the pathping command against the target servers. It's like traceroute on steroids, but it takes 3-4 minutes. It'll show you the latency as each hop and you can see where performance goes south.

ok so i did it, and the first hop says 11ms, second hop says 17ms, and third hop says 20ms. I dont understand what the issue is :/ those total up to a total of 48ms of latency. Any other suggestions? Heres a picture as well: http://gyazo.com/3e6d8e070012a27bfbe41f5ee505b42e

UPDATE: It is happening again, and it's even worse now. Im getting 300ms to the server I was talking about. na.badlion.net

By any chance do you have Verizon fios? Its funny exactly how you explained your problem is what's happening to me. I talked to them but they said my internet is perfectly fine, so I factory reset my computer thinking it was a software issue but that did nothing. I have the same exact problem as you, I used to get 30ms in most minecraft servers and now I get 100-120. Yet I can play csgo with good ms, and my internet speeds are perfectly fine.

sorry for such a late response, yes I do have Verizon, I've found that it's a problem on Verizon's backbone provider Telia sonera. Nothing I can do about. The ping will suddenly become terrible in only minecraft at some times. The frequency at which this problem occurs has greatly decreased since I posted this, so it doesn't bother me too much anymore.
