Got a sudden problem with my GPU.

Firstly, the screen went black for a second and an error message popped up: 'kernel driver stopped working and has recovered' this happened twice.

Then, i restarted my pc but nothing comes up on the monitor, also my monitor doesn't say 'no input signal'.

So, i unplugged the dvi cable from the GPU and plugged into the motherboard, now im using the mobo gpu.

I uninstalled the drivers from control panel then used DDU.
Then i completely took my GPU out and reinserted it.
Booted back up but cant install any drivers, it doesnt detect my GPU.
The GPU fans spin but it is completely not detected.
I'm going to take the GPU and try it on another rig but that wont be till tomorrow.

It was working absolutely fine prior to this and my build is couple of years old.

Is there anything else i should do or check? Does anyone know what the issue is and if it is solvable without purchasing a new GPU, in a bit of financial difficulties at the moment.

thanks,

My spec:
CPU - i5 3570k
GPU - 660GTX 3gb
Ram - 8gb
Mobo - asus p8z77-v lx2
Windows 7
PSU - CX 500m
Storage - 125gb Samsung SSD, 1tb normal storage

Solution
It is like last resort, basically between solder joints appear micro fractions after some time, especially on older GPU. And oven baking re solders them.

Well as you said try to check in another rig, maybe someone else will have some ideas. But I can offer you as a last resort to oven bake it :)
Just check google, and follow instructions some times it helps. It is not permanent though. But first thing check it in another rig, and it is no use to look for other solutions, before you do that.
