Sudden Raid Re-configuration

I have a CalDigit VR 2x2TB external HDD with an eSATA port connected to a PC and FW800 sometimes connected to a MacBook Pro.

I use this drive to record audio and video. It is RAID 0 so it is single volume, RECORD.

It has been working like a charm for a while. Until yesterday I turned it on and as it powered up and detected the disks instead of saying "caldigit raid 0 Status: Good" it said "Auto rebuild on please wait" and in a matter of seconds became "Disk 1: 1.8 TB JBOD / Disk 2: 1.8 TB JBOD"

it is "not readable by this computer" ... obviously because it's not partitioned or formatted to be JBOD. After a few heart attacks and some consulting with few expert friends ... I decided to set it back to RAID 0 and use something like TestDisk to locate the missing partitions. Problem is when I set it back, it showed the RAID as being 1.9 TB. Both disks are showing a green light... they're obviously being recognized by the hardware.... so why won't it give me the full 3.8 TB?

is it possible the the table of one or both of these drives got smoked when re-configuring? In theory isn't the data all there and needs only to be looked at the correct way (not sound like a complete layman)?

And also... why would it do this in the first place. It's never made any weird noises and performs like a champ. If anyone is familiar with these drives I'd appreciate any insight.... thanks

Solution
Your data is GONE, because it is RAID0... if the RAID is not intact during power up... Meaning the RIB (raid info block) is screwed up by either the RAID engine or the HDD itself, pretty hard to trouble-shoot unless you have all the tools that HDD manufacturing has, just redo the RAID and remember back up this time 🙂
