its been like this for a while now, mainly i'd get a BSOD "machine check exception" and when its not that its "IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL" and other than that there would be sudden restarts out of no where with no error message once o' ever.
usually it would happen while browsing with chrome though i guess its because thats mainly what i would do on my pc. it happened only once so far while playing a game the error was the "machine check exception" if i recall.
would love to get some help to narrow it down and solve this problem since its been hunting me for months.
my pc is self built specs as folllows,

intel i5 9600k
Nvidia RTX 2080
650W PSU
Kingston SSD Sata.

Please see this guide about enabling minidumps and then post a link to the minidumps here so that we can help identify the problem: https://forums.tomshardware.com/thr...nclude-in-blue-screen-of-death-posts.3468965/

What is the make and model of your PSU?
What is the rest of your system spec? RAM etc.
Are you running and overclock or XMP at all?

followed the steps on the link, will update with a minidump as soon as i get another crash, in regards for the rest of the specs
my RAM is 16GB 1 stick by hyperx and the PSU is GX 650 by cooler master, and i am not running any overclocking or XMP at all ( not that im aware of at least).

What motherboard do all these parts click into or are they magically attached?

its the most likely source of drivers that are causing the errors, not knowing what you have makes it difficult to say which drivers might be involved.

that and the dumps but you waiting for it to crash again :)

Sorry for the missing information Colif, the motherboard is B360 HD3 by GIGABYTE.
on a side note, had one of those sudden restarts yesterday though no minidump created, have i done something wrong with the way i set it up or is the dump only created when it goes through a BSOD?
just to sum it up in one go regarding the specs :
RTX 2080 Nvidia
intel i5 9600k
650W PSU by cooler master
MOBO B360 HD3 by GIGABYTE
1 RAM stick 16 GB by Hyperx
SSD Sata 1TB by kingstone

Only through BSOD.
Althought a random restart indicates a different problem. Did it just cut out as if you unplugged it then restarted?

good news, i guess?
got another crash though this one wasn't one of the 2 i mentioned it was "whea uncontrollable error"
minidump link

No one really welcomes whea errors. It is WHEA uncorrectable error, you were close enough. Its not really a new error, its another form of the Machine Check exception you got before.

WHEA = Windows Hardware Error Architecture. The errors are called by CPU but not necessarily caused by it.
  • Can be caused by overheating so make sure PC clean inside
  • Can be caused by overclocking software like MSI Afterburner, GPU Tweak 2 (if GPU is from Asus), Intel Extreme Tuning utility. Not sure what Easy Tune is on Gigabyte website for motherboard, it might be same sort of thing.
  • Can be caused by any hardware which makes it fun.

@PC Tailor will be able to convert those dumps into a form we can read now so we might be able to actually help you.

I have ran the dump file and you can see the full report here: https://pste.eu/p/8Xh3.html

Summary of findings:
BugCheck 124
Probably caused by : GenuineIntel

Bugcheck Description:
WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR
"This bug check indicates that a fatal hardware error has occurred. This bug check uses the error data that is provided by the Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA).

Parameter 1 identifies the type of error source that reported the error. Parameter 2 holds the address of the WHEA_ERROR_RECORD structure that describes the error condition.

When a hardware error occurs, WHEA creates an error record to store the error information associated with the hardware error condition. "

About your bugcheck:
"A WHEA ERROR is almost solely hardware based. It is possible in rare circumstances for this to be a driver, however it is very unlikely. It is often caused by:
  • Component overheating
  • Unstable overclocking or XMP profile
  • Faulty hardware"

Some things to consider:
I would highly advise you to view the full report above, as this will contain much more detail as to the bugcheck and modules running at the time.
  • The Razer drivers are out of date, and I've known Razer drivers to cause various problems. You may want to find an update for these (I cannot see what hardware so cannot link for you).
  • You may want to see if there is an update for your Intel IO drivers
  • The Gigabyte tools can sometimes cause issues, but I would focus on first 2.
  • Do you have latest BIOS installed?

i will update the Razer just in-case. regarding the IO drivers could you elaborate please?
and lastly i tried to update the BIOS but i never understood the right or rather the proper way to do it, if you could run me through what I'm supposed to do i would appreciate it highly.

I guess he means this which seems odd

iaLPSS2_GPIO2.sys03/07/2017IntelIntel Serial IO host controller driver

Installs the Intel® Serial IO host controller driver version 1.3 for Intel® NUCs. The Intel Serial IO driver is required if you plan to use the I2C, UART, or GPIO host controllers.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25601/Intel-Serial-IO-Driver-for-Windows-10

Have you used any 3rd party driver updaters? I don't think this is part of your motherboard drivers (my internet being odd tonight and half websites not loading so I can't be sure)

can always run this and stop it at startup since I am not sure it should be running. If anything does need it, the program can always start the driver. This just stops it auto running - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns

BIOS - Gigabyte uses Q FLash. See here - https://www.gigabyte.com/MicroSite/121/flashbios_qflash.pdf

i certainly have not used any 3rd party driver updaters, only used what i got in the boxes, and nvidia Geforce.
so far what I've done is to update the razer products and downloaded what you sent in an attempt to stop the process, although, when i pick this process and give my permission the program just shuts off when in other processes it works fine.
and also downloaded what you sent with the IO drivers and installed it, i will wait with updating the BIOS just because its too much of a hussle right now and also to eliminate the other two causes (unless it could be a chain reaction?).
will update the BIOS in-case i get another crash.

My fault but i didn't intend you to download the newer version of Serial io , i was just showing a link to where i got my info from (reference). As far as I can tell it shouldn't be on your PC but I also don't know how it got there.

A post i made on subject 3 years ago suggests its a touchpad driver
I can find it on laptop driver lists for laptops made this year as well.
or drivers for a dvd drive? dell suggests its power management... the more i look, the less sure I become of what it is for :)

https://forums.intel.com/s/question...out-the-intel-serial-io-driver?language=en_US

what devices do you plug into PC?

I had another crash just now with the "machine check exception" error code. figured i should post it in-case something different than before caused it, minidump

And about the IO driver how can i remove it if it should not be on my computer, since the autoruns program has failed, what's our next move?

The things that are almost always connected to the computer are:
Mouse & keyboard, both razer
headset with a usb connection
PS4 controller

P.S. about the sudden restarts would you guys have any idea on how to tackle this one to narrow it down? it has been happening more frequently than the BSOD.

Full report of the latest dump file here: https://pste.eu/p/tMvn.html

I was able to run an errrec on this, however the output became so large that it actually reset the debugger so it wouldn't allow me to physically read through all of the recoverable errors. However the sheer amount is more concerning.

Razer drivers can cause all manner of problems, however the dump above pulls out storport.sys -----> Storage port driver (high-perf) as a problem.

However in addition - have you monitored CPU / GPU temps under load?

Note: Serial IO isn't what I thought it was, its part of the intel chipset drivers, its just not seen very often... I was corrected by another mod. So it may not have been a problem in 1st place... sorry about that,

if you have autoruns stopping it now, you might want to let it run after all. Its not like I have seen that file that much in last 3 years. we all make mistakes...

How many drives do you have? Only one?

wonder why its mentioning raid - FAILURE_ID_HASH_STRING: km:0x9c_genuineintel_stackptr_error_storport!raidunitclaimirp

try either running this on ssd

https://www.kingston.com/en/support/technical/ssdmanager

or HD Sentinel Trial - https://www.hdsentinel.com/hard_disk_sentinel_trial.php (if you run trial, open the disk tab and run any tests you can.

I could also be reading that wrong. although many things mentioned in stack are drive related.

yes, they both read as 100 but its showing as green as well, I would want more opinions before blaming ssd for that. It seems a mixed signal, it could be it starts at 100 and works down... that is how my Samsung ssd does it, 100 is best you can get, not worst.

what USB devices do you have?

Lets see if you get these still with serial IO running. The previous WHEA didn't look anything like this one. It might have been the lack of serial IO that did it...

listed the USB devices in a previous comment

I think i need new glasses

Mouse & keyboard, both razer
headset with a usb connection
PS4 controller

I only asked as one BSOD I found that mentions the same error you got above turned out to be a USB device.

so bsod blames Storport.sys
Storport (Storport.sys), a storage port driver that is especially suitable for use with high-performance buses, such as fibre channel buses, and RAID adapters. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/storage/capabilities-provided-by-storport

processes mentioned in error line include
classpnp - appears to be a scsi driver built into windows.
partmgr - partition manager
volmgr - volume manager
iorate - Disk I/O rate filter driver
fvevol.sys = Bit locker file encryption

they all to do with your drive, hence tests.

One fix for storport.sys errors in to update chipset drivers. Since you have the newest bios it also helps if Intel Management Engine Interface matches it, as its the chip set drivers - https://www.gigabyte.com/au/Motherboard/B360-HD3-rev-10/support#support-dl-driver-chipset (you will notice serial IO there as well, not sure if thats version you had already).

Your current version of IMEI is from 2017, latest on website is 2019.

Its possible this BSOD won't happen again once you enable serial IO. I am annoyed at self for wasting time before.

I've downloaded and installed the newest chipset drivers but i do need a clarification on the BIOS update, do i only need the latest one being F14 or are all the previous versions mandatory beforehand?

No surprise, a 0x9C doesn't contain any WHEA records.
this bug check occurs only in the following circumstances: - WHEA is not fully initialized. - All processors that rendezvous have no errors in their registers
All you get is
Code:

@yamkzs, could you run the tool from https://www.sysnative.com/forums/pages/bsodcollectionapp/ and upload the zip file it generates. It will not only collect dump files, but also a couple of other files that are often needed when troubleshooting BSOD crashes.

Zip from the tool, just an update had another BSOD "machine check exception" let me know if the dump could provide any further details, ill upload it. still did not get the chance to update the BIOS.
