Suddenly no sound on my computer for practically no reason. Bring me your wisdom, do I need a new Sound Card?

I will describe the scene of malfunction today:
Earlier I was watching some netflix and everything was great, then I paused and decided to go eat some dinner. When I came back, all of the sudden there was no sound. I restarted my computer and nothing. I unplugged and replugged my headphones and nothing, except that my sound reset to 100% (this could have happened earlier but I only noticed this once I plugged my headphones back in). This was alarming because I have Sennheiser 558 headphones (~50 ohms) and a Sound Blaster ZXR Sound Card (~600 Ohms), so I never dare take sound above 14%. But since there was no sound my headphones didn't seem to explode or anything.

I then tested my headphones on another source to check for shorts or general brokenness and the headphones worked perfectly. I then checked the Sound panel on my computer (Windows 8.1 OS) and it showed the green bars dancing happily so there supposedly should have been sound. Then I checked the Sound Blaster Software and it said there were no audio devices available and closed out. I tried other ports on the back of the card and used other headphones but got the same results of zero sound output. I also opened up the PC and reseated the Main card in another socket and then reinstalled the driver(I tried reinstalling the driver before reseating too but it said there was no card there to install to) successfully but then there was still no sound.

So basically, I'm completely mind boggled right now. My only conclusion is that my High end Sound Card that has been working flawlessly since I bought it new 5 months ago suddenly failed when I walked away for 20 minutes. Obviously nothing was muted on my computer. Has my card really died, or have I overlooked something? Please help me!

Update: I used skype and my mic works. My mic is also plugged into the back of the Main sound card. This leads me to believe the issue is with the headphone port or something similar, but I'm not sure.
