Sugestions on heatsink?

Hi,

I am about to switch CPU heatsink/fan and have looked at the followin :

Scythe Kama Grand Cross ca 315 kr
Info : Not much, but it seems to get grate reviews.

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev.2 ca 250 kr
Info : Should be vary quiet and do a better jobb then the stock bit maby a good chooise if you are overclocking?

Cooler Master Hyper N520 ca 310 kr
Info : Cool great but is not vary quiet

Scythe Mugen 2 rev B ca 479 kr
Info : This appears on alot of tests and it usually get good grades

Today I have

CPU : Intel Q6600 (with stock fan)
Modekort : Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R, P35, Socket-775 (rev 1)
Minne : Corsair TWIN2X 6400C4 DDR2, 2048MB CL4
Grafikkort : XFX HD5850 BE
Nätdel : Corsair HX650

My thoung is to get a heatsink/fan that can be mounted on Socket-775 as well as for 1366 and 1156 so it can be used with my next upgrade.

I am also planing on overclock the Q6600 to 3Ghz.

The sound that the heatsink/fan generates is important, it should be inaudible in idle mode.

Pleas advice.

scythe mugen and the cooler master v8 is about the same price here in Sweden. But will the cooler master v8 fit in my Antech Sonata 2 case? and is it really better then then mugen?

I will ofcource see how far the CPU will go with just changin settings in the BIOS but you mean that I will not need a bigger CPU cooler then the Q6600 stock?

My current stock do have a annoying sound so if i switch the CPU cooler maby the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev.2 will be suficent even for the oc?
 
im sorry but I disagree with plainly using the stock cooler. If you are going to consider ANY OCing you need a bigger cooler, even if it is just a bit bigger.

The V8 fit in my mini p180 case, (only just), so i would assume it would fit in an Antec Sonata 2 as well. If your worried, then go for a smaller cooler, but i seriously advice a different cooler.
 
The cooler master v8 seems to do a grate job but the reviews sugests that its a bit loud.

According to this the Thermalright MUX-120 is a grate choise and on second place the scythe mugen. If I understand it right the scythe mugen have a better fan controler system then the MUX-120?

Here in sweden the MUX-120 cost about $20 more then the scythe mugen. Is it worth to go with the MUX-120?

Will both of these coolers fit in to my Antec sonata 2 case?
 


The Scythe Mugen I think would be the better one for the fact that the pipes on the bottom are copper instead of aluminum. The copper being always the better choice for heat transfer. I mean its up to you, but i just like copper.

It's pretty nice and runs my CPU really cool, but I don't overclock I just want my CPU to have a strong life because of the amount of gaming that is done on my system.
 
My Q6600 @ 3.0Ghz stock cooler runs with 52 degree on full load. I will probably not oc alot more so I have decided to go with the alot cheaper cooler Arctic Cooling Freezer 7Pro rev.2.

Its not as good as the more expensive but your should not buy the best cooler if you are not into oc alot. I hope that the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7Pro rev.2 will make my computer more quiet then the stock. What do you think?

In my opinion, get a coolermaster hyper N620 or Noctua UPF12 or something (the lower class from NH-D14). Its pretty okay for the price.

Gotta admit, you cant get any good cooler without a "price" though
 
An incredible value for money cooler is the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus(I bought that for my brother's system).

If you want to open the purse strings, the Noctura NH-D14 is pretty damn impressive(I bought that for my system)
 
I'm going to consider this solved on my part unless you have a question for me, but I already put what you should try and many others on Tomshardware are in here helping I hope you find what your looking for and this thread can be solved. Thanks though for your questions SnowJim.
 
Quick Question. I have a Antec 900 case. If I wanted to get a Mugen 2 Rev. B could i actually point the cpu fan towards the top of the case (where the 200MM fan is) Would this be a problem?

which way does the fan spin on the Mugen... is it pulling the heat from the heatsink or pushing cooler air over the heat sinks
 


Generally all the cpu fans push air over the fins to keep them cool! As if it were a radiator just about the same concept, for the fact the fans blow on the radiator cooling the fins and the coolent inside.

The Scythe Mugen 2 Rev. B CPU Cooler can be pointed towards the back of the case there in-tell pushing the hotair off the heatsink towards the exhaust fan on the back of the computer case.

The 212+ is a great HSF on a budget (~$30).
