Looking for a reliable internal desktop SATA hard drive.

Will not be a primary drive.
    Used mostly for storing movies.
    Size around 2 - 3 TB.
    Preference - Reliability.

Over 10 years I have been using either of Seagate or Western Digital. So far I have not had any fail on me.

Then you have been very fortunate, I've had four Seagate drives fail on me in only five years.
I now buy only WD or Hitachi drives. They have not been any trouble. I'm considering buying only SSD units when they come down in price, but until then I advise you stick with the WD or Hitachi brand, based on my positive experience with them.

The old Seagate drives used to be okay (I'm going back as far as 1998) but the ones they are turning out now are just not reliable enough for me.

Hey,

I would recommend either Seagate or Western Digital, both brands have had times where their drives suffered from reliability issues at times, however overall they are pretty good. If you are looking to buy Seagate I would suggest their 3TB drive as each platter is 1TB (runs on a newer design). Some of their 2TB drives use an older design thats not as good as their newer 1TB per platter design. Also if you are looking at Western Digital they too have a nice choice, their Black series of drives is more performance oriented, while their Blue line is made more for general use, both are good.

Also if you are only storing movies, maybe a Western Digital Green drive would be good as they are more energy efficient, however they are not as fast, but it shouldn't matter too much if you are just storing movies.

Hope this helps!

I was leaning bit towards WD. Read through a few threads.

I was not sure to go Black or Green. The green seems awesome from price point, I can get 3TB with green as compared to 2TB from Black. And like fil1p mentioned, i am not going to have any intensive tasks just movies n stuff.

However, I noticed that the Warranty is 5 for black & 2 for green. Correct me if i am wrong, doesn't that implicitly mean, that green is not as reliable as black??
