Hello,

This is Vimal from India. I am thinking of buying a high-end PC. Since I am not much aware of the config and components, Could anyone possibly suggest me the best config to date?

I do work on 2D animation | compositing | Motion Graphics | Visual effects and the software used by me are as follows:

-Adobe After Effects
-PF Track
-Mocha
-Illustrator
-Photoshop

I already have a few ideas in my mind which I think are essential in my config which are stated below:

i7 - 8700K Processor
Asus Maximus X Hero Mother board
Gtx 1060 6GB Dual graphics card
4 x 16 GB ram ddr4 - 64 gb ram
Noctua NH D15 Air cooler
EVGA Supernova G2 Tier 1 650 watts Psu.
Enthoo pro Case.

Does the above config sounds good?

Please let me know your comments and suggestions.

P.S: My budget for the above said PC is $3000USD (which comes around 2 lakhs Indian Rupees). Please exclude monitor/keyboard.

Thank you.

U might want to look at Quadro p series cards.
Do a bit of research on which card you actually need.

Look into 10 bit hdr displays if monitor is a priority.

Update the mobo bios in a local shop.

If suppose you think u need a memory intensive cpu intensive system, look into threadripper 1950x with X399 mobo and a 16x4 ram kit of...

Since you are building a workstation, you should choose AMD, the more cores the better. Also in your budget you can use a GTX1080ti which is 2-3 times more powerful than Gtx1060.

With AMD Ryzen 7 2700x, 64gb RAM and Gtx1080ti this will be a good build

Dear Srimasis,

Thanks for your reply,

Buying a single 1080ti 11 GB is better than 2 1060 6GB dual card?

Is it true? If so, obviously 12GB > 11 GB right? Could you please let me know?

Thank you

Hello Vimal,
When you use two GPUs in SLI they won't stack their VRam instead they just share the VRam data. What I am saying is two GTX1060 won't give you 12gb VRam, it still will be 6gb VRam. And Gtx1080ti is still faster than dual Gtx1060.

Just did a quick search, and found out that many adobe software just don't scale well in SLI. In fact many users feel the second GPU is a waste of money.

Also the Gtx1080ti is faster than dual Gtx1060 in SLI, so why bother with dual GPU setup.

Unfortunately I couldn't find whether Vram stacking is used or not, but since many are advising against using multi GPU setup so why bother at all.

I like the build, except for the 4 single ram modules. As Ryzen is pretty picky about the ram, I would suggest getting a matched 64GB kit of ram. Getting unmatched ram to work together is problematical at best, impossible at worst! Even 2 kits with the exact same model number can have issues, especially if purchased at different times and/or places. They sell matched ram for a reason.

The above said 4 single rams is not matched? How to make sure about the compatibility? Could you please clarify me.

Thank you

Not necessarily. The problem is that when you buy 4 single packaged sticks, they are NOT matched, and there is NO guarantee that they were even made around the same time. Even if they have the same model number, you don't know when they were manufactured, and designs and/or types of memory chips used could have changed.
Look at it this way: You are spending approximately $3000USD on a system. I would rather spend a little more and get ram GUARANTEED to work together, than take a chance that they might not work together.

That is an assumption that they were manufactured at the same time. Who knows what the actual vendor has in stock and when they were made. and what will actually be shipped to the buyer.
