Fallout 4 froze up like I haven't seen in years and memory was maxed at 95%. I want to buy more memory.

Do I buy 8 GB more of the same memory I have or get 16 GB of faster memory?

And if so, what do I buy? My motherboard's max says it supports 3000+, which I'm not sure what that means exactly. Does that mean 4266 or....?

System Specs:

Windows 10

ASRock X99 Extreme4 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Crucial 8GB (2 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000) Desktop Memory Model CT2K4G4DFS8213

Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3 GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W BX80648I75820K Desktop Processor

PNY GeForce GTX 1080 8GB XLR8 Gaming Overclocked Graphic Card (VCGGTX10808XGPB-OC)

The best memory for that motherboard would be a matched set of 4 DIMMs. A set of 4 matched DIMMs will be the most stable. Purchasing two additional DIMMs may or may not work with your existing DIMMs.

What speed?

So, basically keep using what I'm using, but it's recommended I get a set of 4 instead of a 2nd pair of what I already have. Therefore removing the two I have?

That will be the most stable and most reliable. The manufacturer has tested all 4 to work as a set. And is guaranteed as a set.
You would remove the two you have and either sell them or put them in another build.

I received a notification about this, so I figured I'd update my original post. I ended up buying 8 GB more (2 x 4 GB) and everything worked fantastically. I made sure to use the same Newegg link as what I originally purchased. Even so, in the BIOS, it shows as different memory, but everything works great. I'm glad I did not discard my old (8 GB) memory and buy a new 16 GB.
