Hi,
I'm starting the search for a replacement of my 2007 Windows desktop. I'm looking for something that will primarily be used for business (web conferencing, Google drive, blogging, etc.) but also Lightroom and Photoshop use (for my photography) and some causal gaming. Budget is under $900. I'd like an ssd for fast boots, etc.

Not sure if you need Windows. But here's a good build. You have some room to play with your budget. Maybe a quiet CPU cooler (Cryorig C7, M9i, H7, etc.) or an additional hard drive if you need it.

Really good build, only thing I would change is that PSU even though it is decent.

Something like this:

Only reason it touches $900 is because it has a 1060 6 GB.

If you want room to play with, by all means, go with volgren's build. Ticks all the boxes.

Ok, after being out of town for a few weeks, I'm back and doing some more thinking about what I might want in the next computer. One thing I'm considering is building a system that will work if I want to build a "Hackintosh" and add the Mac OS as a dual boot option to Windows. Based on that, I put together a build that I think will allow me to do this:

Any feedback on this?

A few changes I would make.

Cheaper, more reliable air cooler. (Liquid not necessary on i5-8400; the H60 is not any better cooling)
Cheaper motherboard.
Faster/Better quality RAM.
Faster/better quality SSD.
Bigger HDD.
Better case.
Cheaper but equal quality GPU.
Cheaper but equally sufficient/quality power supply.
Lower overall price.

Thanks for this! I've been out of the "parts picking game" for so long that it's a bit overwhelming. It's nice to have someone come up with a better/cheaper solution. I will take a look at all the parts and then consult with the boss to see if I can get the special "budgetary allocation" that's needed to move forward.
