I'm looking for recommendations for an i7 8th gen CPU for my H370 AORUS Gaming 3 WIFI motherboard .. I have 16gb RAM. GTX 1050TI graphics card. I'm gaming and using Oculus Rift S. Looking for 8 cores? Around $300? Did some searches but want to see what some others suggest.

I currently have an i3. My assumption is the i7 will provide better gaming performance. Reading through other threads - that may not be the case? Thanks.

8700 non K be fine. K initial indicates the multiplier for the cpu is unlocked to overclock. Need a Z board to overclock. Non K 8700 is only 100MHz less vs 8700k with default turbo speeds of 4.6GHz. Default turbo is not limited to Z boards so your H370 will run the 8700 at 4.6 under load in accordance to temperature. Make sure you get an adequate cooler for it, don't use the i3's.

Integrated graphics can be useful diagnosing graphics card issues. But up to you. Only F and KF cpus don't have igpu which are only 9th gen.

Only 8th gen i7 is 8700/8700k. If bios is on the latest then possibly 9th gen i7 9700/9700k - including the prefix 'F' versions of the two 9700 models that don't include integrated graphics for lesser price.

8700/8700k or 9700(9700F) / 9700k(9700kF) be a night and day difference compared to the i3. You'll be able to play more cpu heavier games.

Thanks for the reply. I see the 8700 designation is 8th gen and 9700 is 9th gen. I'm about to research CPUs. Is the higher processor speed number like 3.7GHz still the target one should consider for best performance?

I'm considering the following .....
Intel Core i7-8700K 3.7 GHz 6-Core LGA 1151 Processor

would I need integrated graphics if I'm running a separate graphics card? I'm going to say no . Then I could consider an i7-8700 w/o the integrated graphics?
