suggestion for a new graphics card

I currently own an ASUSTeK M5A97 LE R2.0 pcie 2.0 16x mobo with an AMD Radeon HD 7850 OC edition graphics card but the fans have been dying slowly over the last year and today one has finally failed with the other soon to follow (I replaced the fans a year or so ago) and am just looking to upgrade. My price range is $300-$400 and any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I agree that the 1070 is the best card below 400.
Although this card is a just slightly better deal.

Is there a reason you'd go from a 7850 to a $400 card? Do you have the CPU to utilize a $400 card? "Upgrade" covers a lot of ground when you don't mention your games or resolution or CPU or preferred framerate or power supply.

I have an 8 core processor and play a lot of world of warships and other high end graphic intensive games on steam such as rise of the tomb raider which my 7850 struggles to run at 60fps at 1080p and I plan on getting more games in the the next year/s that will more than take advantage of the aforementioned card. Thank you though for looking more into the subject as I did forget to mention those aspects.
