Question Suggestion for m.2

I don't think my mb is compatible with gen 4 m.2, am I right?
1 x M.2 slot (Key M)
Supports PCIe 3.0 x4 (1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen™, Ryzen™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics and 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen™ with Radeon™ Graphics) or PCIe 3.0 x2 (Athlon™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics) and SATA 6Gb/s 2242/ 2260/ 2280/ 22110 storage devices
Correct. You should look at PCIe 3.0x4 M.2 SSD's though, what processor have you paired with that motherboard?

Where are you located(Italy?), what is your budget and what is your preferred site for purchase? It'd help us if you could also mention what the drive would be used for, as in if it's meant for the OS/app's/launchers or a game library, assuming you're looking at a SSD for gaming.

Thanks for your prompt answer!
I live in Italy and I'm searching on Amazon.it
I have a Ryzen 5700x and I mostly use the computer for gaming.

You're welcome! So the SSD is meant to be a game library...? What is the make and model of your existing SSD? You forgot to mention your budget for the SSD purchase.
I will move the OS to the M.2 plus I will use It as game library! I don't have a specific budget.
I will buy a 1TB model for sure!
I have a SanDisk SSD Ultra II

I would advise against that. You didn't answer what your existing SSD is but I'd leave the OS, app's and launchers on that and then have the M.2 as the drive that has your all of your games installed onto.

Here is a shortlist;

FYI, 1TB for the game drive might not be enough considering how large installer for games are getting these days.

Well, I would not remove the SSD, I would just add the m2 and have a double storage!

WD SN770 is an awesome drive. Read Tom's review. It's a dramless PCIe 4.0 NVME but keeps up in most situations with the big boys. I have the 2TB as a main boot/gaming drive in one of my PC's and I can't tell the difference vs the much more expensive 990 Pro

You don't need to limit your search to PCIe 3.0 drives, PCIe 4.0 is backwards compatible.
The drive will work just fine and if you move it to a newer board down the road it will be be faster.

The m.2 gives much higher read/write performance over the sandisk ultra ssd. Why would you not put the OS on it and gain higher overall performance?
You could buy a 2tb m.2, partition it in two and have OS on one partition, games library on the other to take advantage of the extra performance and use the sandisk for backups.
