Hi Guys,

I am building a workstation desktop for my friend which will mostly be used as virtual machine. Below are the parts which we finalized.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700x
Mobo: Gigabyte B450 AORUS Elite
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000MHz 32GB (2X16GB)
SSD: WD Green 240 GB 2.5 SATA
HDD: WD 1TB HDD 3.5 SATA
PSU: Corsair CX650 80+ Bronze / TX650M 80+ Gold / RM650 80+ Gold (Still deciding)
GPU: Sapphire R9 270X dual-x (using old spare GPU)
Cabinet: Need Suggestion

As I mentioned above this machine will mostly be used for virtualization purpose, no gaming is required.
Our Budget is around 1000$ (70000 INR including import duty), Computer parts are usually costlier in India due to import duty and all.
Request you all to share your suggestion on below,
  1. Machine will be able to handle around 40 virtual machine.
  2. What PSU should I use?
  3. Cabinet.
  4. Any other suggestion is welcomed.

That motherboard (and most B450 mobos except MSI's "MAX" series) is not guaranteed to be compatible with Ryzen 3000 CPUs out of the box, and may need a BIOS update using a Ryzen 2000 or 1000 series CPU first. Are you capable of doing that?
(or you could get a motherboard with BIOS flashback feature that requires no CPU to perform a BIOS update)

I checked on Seller site. Now they are upgrading BIOS and sending it to support Ryzen 3000 CPU.

40VMs? Probably not with 32GB RAM. 30 maybe. Maybe consider adding a quad port ethernet card for the VMs. I think you are going to want more SSD for 30+ VMs.
