Hi everybody!

So I made a list of components to upgrade my gaming pc..

i7 4970k
Gigabyte G1 GTX 970 OC
ssd samsung 840 evo 250gb
msi z97 gaming 5

The thing is, it's very expensive (almost 1000€) so instead of buying it blindly, I wanted to get some suggestions.

My current pc build has a fx8320 cpu with a asus m5a97 evo r2.0, a r9 280x vapor-x graphics card and 8gb of RAM. Is it worth it to buy the i7 for gaming? or should I just upgrade the graphics card and the ssd? I wanted to play a lot of modded Skyrim without the stuttering I currently have and some ENBs while getting 45-50 fps at minimum, and almost every other game in ultra settings with 60 fps.

What do you guys think?

As much as I love SSD's, you won't get more FPS by using one. Just faster load times. The GTX 970 is a very nice card, roughly double the rendering power of your 280x according to

If you don't mind upgrading in stages. I would suggest getting the GTX 970, and trying it out on your build. This would potentially solve your performance issues (assuming your CPU isn't limiting your current setup). Are you 100% CPU usage (on a single core or more) during Skyrim, or 100% GPU usage? Knowing what is currently holding you back the most should direct your upgrade path.

If your motherboard is able to handle it, you could also try overclocking your CPU to see if that improves your...
The components you listed are not that old. Save your money.

If you must upgrade, an i7 for gaming is overkill single core performance is more important so a 3258k overclocked or a 4690k overclocked would be more cost effective.

Agreed. RAM is more important in gaming and you already have more than enough (8GB). Thanks!

As for the budget, I CAN buy the things I said, it just hurts my pockets 😛 and I'm from Spain. My components as I said are:

Asus m5a97 evo r2.0 Motherboard
Amd Fx8320 3.5Ghz CPU
Sapphire R9 280x Vapor-x 3gb Graphics Card
8gb of RAM Kingston 1333mhz
An old hdd (8 years)
Cooler Master Gx lite 600w power supply

As for what I want to keep, well I'm gonna upgrade the graphics card to the gtx I mentioned, I just wanted to know if it's worth it to replace the motherboard and get a i7 4970k or is it going overboard and the upgrade to the gtx 970 and the ssd will be enough

Yeah I think upgrading to the Gtx and the ssd will be the wise choice for the moment, I can see if I need further improvement later, I'll buy a Hyper 212 evo cooler and overclock to 4.0-4.2 ghz (currently 3.7ghz on stock) and see how it goes.

Yeah I know, it was just to have a more future proof build so that I don't have to upgrade every year like I'm doing now
