Hi everyone,

i was thinking to upgrade the graphic card of my old machine;

this is the configuration:
i5 3570k
8 gb ram ddr3 1600mhz
gtx 670 palit
ssd 128 mb
hs 1 tb

considering that i play casually and only at 1080p with a 60hz monitor i was considering those models:

gtx 1060 6gb:

rtx 580 8gb:

rtx 590 8gb:

now considering i have a 550 watt psu, and knowing the first two cards are kind of equivalent, is it worthed to spend more in order to get the rtx 590?

i am planning to do so in order to keep my machine still "competitive" at 1080p for a couple of years more

What to you suggest?

Thank you for your support!

They trade blows as far as performance. Sometimes the RX 580 puts out higher FPS and sometimes it's the 1060 6gb, depends on the game.
I think the 1060 will work great with that CPU...and I used to be an AMD guy but I'm not anymore so I can't comment on the AMD cards....but I can say the GTX 1060 will pretty much play anything maxed out at 1080p....but there are a few exceptions.....like Planet Coaster because it's just so damn computer intensive.

As long as your 550W PSU is a good quality unit I'd get the RX 590, it's a solid GPU and you get 3 games with it which makes the higher price worth it. Also as long as you have a unlocked motherboard and decent CPU cooling I'd try for a 4ghz+ overclock on your CPU. As for the 8gb it should be fine for now.

Intel Temperature Guide by CompuTronix, has all the info & tools to overclock your CPU.

The next upgrade I'd suggest is the CPU/MB/Memory when your system struggles maintaining a higher FPS.

Thank you for the suggestion,
my psu is a corsair cx 550 bronze; i am not sure it qualifies as a good unit (i am not really an expert)
what do you think?

Thank you again, i will scrap the rx 590 in this case;

Do you believe it is all about taste regarding the choice between a gtx 1060 and an rx 580 so?

Sorry again, but in this case I have another question;
i could get a CORSAIR 650W ENTHUSIAST SERIES TX650 V2-80 PLUS for free;

in this case do you suggest to take the rx 590?

Thank you

I've been told it should be the version 2012 (my brother had it in his old rig)

Thank you!

you definitely clarified my ideas!
