Suggestions for a new Rig - 1500 GBP

Hi Folks,

I am new to the forum so kindly excuse if I am posting in the wrong area.
I am looking to build a new gaming rig with a budget of approximately 1500-2000 GBP.

Below are the details. Opinions and suggestions are always welcome.

Approximate Purchase Date: within 3 months

You need dual channel RAM not triple channel. Anything over 8GB seems pointless for gaming.

I'd get the corsair HX1050 over the CM Silent pro.

Since you're buying almost everything from scan why not buy the graphics card there as well?

Motherboard is OTT to say the least. Get the ASUS P8Z68 Pro, even the vanilla one Why_Me suggested.

You could swap out the i7-2600k for an i5-2500k in order to leave more spare cash for Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse and OS if you need it.

These prices AREN'T the cheapest, have a look around DABs, SCAN and Ebuyer + Maybe even AMAZON to see where you can grab the best deals. Use this build and pricing as a guideline though.

Thanks a lot for the reply guys.. Changed the memory to Dual channel ..difference is only 10 pounds between 8GB and 12 GB ...but here you go.

Graphics card would be buying from other website as Scan doesn't have the EVGA version of 580 X which i was interested in !

Now my question is basically what is the difference between the motherboard of ASUS ROG that i seletected and the one suggested by Why_Me. I am just trying to understand ...no disrespect to any of the suggestions above !!

Well you lose a very small amount of functionality for a good decrease in price.

I'd avoid 1866MHz, again for price/performance. The kit i selected was the cheapest 1600MHz at 1.5v (on scan), but at the same time you're spending £2k so saving £10 is pretty insignificant.

Also make sure you get an SSD, at the budget you're working at i'm very surprised no-one else has suggested it.

Thanks for the suggestion Metal Orient.
I have modified the LCD monitor and added SSD. Below is the screenshot of my final configuration. I will stick to the mother-board as it's got very good reviews.

Final two questions :-
1. Is the configuration chosen compatiable.
2. How difficult would it be to assemble them all - considering it's gonna be my first time.

Everything fits, yes.

I'd have thought fairly easy as the case you're working in is very large.
The only problems i can think that you'd have are that the PSU cables may not reach, but that is intrinsic to all PSU's in large cases.

Above was the configuration that I had selected , but now there is a lot of things that I would like to change. Hey guys, just got a question...How easy or convenient it is to have the above mentioned build performed on your own or shall i opt for the scan's 3xs service to have the build done. Basically i have never performed a build on my own.
Also i would be changing my case from Haf X to Silverstone TJ07B-W Black Aluminium Full Tower Case with Window.

I would suggest building it yourself, you'll get some more knowledge about how to build, building is the most exciting part about buying you computer and it will be like a fun "experiment" if you will.

It is also easy to assemble and you can always ask Toms for help 😉

I agree completely with you shaqxolotl, which is why i was confused. Now you have given me another reason to built...But if you could have a look , can you let me know whether i need water cooling ... I would not be able to built it if that's the case !!
Another thing, the monitor I listed is no longer available on scan, can you suggest another one ?

No, you will not need water cooling, and it will be really easy for you to build with fans. One another thing, for the Silverstone TJ07B-W, do i need to order another set of fans as well ?? Or shall the default case fans be sufficient ? I am asking coz a lot of scan's built add fans like Akasa apache !

Why are you changing case anyway, I like the HAF X better and its design. Anyway, the fans they have included in there are fine. You can always decide to purchase more fans in the future, but it good how it is.
