[SOLVED] Suggestions for Higher Tier CPU Air Cooler

Good day all,

So, I'm having a bit of an issue seeing if there are any CPU air coolers out there that wouldn't be a sidegrade from my current use of the Wraith Prism on my 2700X. I have no issue with temps most of the time...until Folding At Home runs for a couple of hours. Temps at that point start to reach into the low to mid 80s (where I believe the 2700X is supposed to have a max safe operating temp of 85C) and that's where I start to worry. Gaming never goes into the 70s no matter what I play, but F@H is the only thing that runs on a consistent basis where the load will start to slowly overwhelm the Prism...and even that only seems to be an issue when jobs are running for the CPU and GPU at the same time. I have the fan curve set to where the fan will crank to 100% at 75C...the noise doesn't bother me a bit but the temps (especially if I let the jobs run overnight) will eventually get warmer.

My setup resides inside of a Corsair SPEC-02 Redshift case (mid-tower). I have six case fans on it...three are the stock fans and three are Thermaltake Riing 120 Reds in an even in/out setup. (Specifically, the included fans are two intake in front, one expel in back, while the Riing fans are two expel on top and one intake on the bottom).

Because of the size of the case, I can't go with the oft-recommended Noctua D-15 or any other similar heat dissipator as none of those will fit. Most of the other ones I've done research on that may fit the case while being under the added top two fans seem to fall under opinion of sidegrades to the Prism in cooling performance. As far as AIOs go...I'm sort of leery on leakage, but besides that fact, the size seems to only allow for a single 120mm fan which I can either install in the rear of the case or on the forward top expel slot. Corsair themselves seem to indicate that a two fan AIO will not fit. From what I've interpreted, a single 120mm fan AIO would also be a sidegrade.

Am I correct in assuming this? Are there better CPU air heatsinks that would work better in such a mid-tower case? Should I just limit F@H jobs and call it a day? Again, the Prism otherwise does a great job keeping all other use case temps in check for me.

Sorry for the long-winded post.

Thanks in advance for any responses.
