I am looking to replace the innards of my PC and, so far, I have settled on an Intel i3-4130 CPU and 8GB RAM. All I need now is a motherboard and am hoping you knowledgeable folk can point me in the right direction.

I do not intend overclocking or gaming and just use PC for normal stuff - Excel, Word, bit of graphic/video processing, internet, etc. So, nothing too taxing, but, I would like it to be nice and responsive.

I saw somewhere to look at ones with H81 chipset if I don't intend to OC.

Are there any obvious choices I should go for or, indeed, avoid? I guess I would be looking to spend no more than £90

Thanks for quick reply. I've seen some promising bundles on eBay and have the option of the following MBs.....

- ASUS H81-PLUS
- ASUS Z97-K (£33 more expensive!)
- Gigabyte H81M-H

Should I go for/avoid any of these????

The boards you listed are all perfectly fine.

I would not buy from ebay though. There are plenty of reputable vendors that offer good prices on parts, stand by their service (newegg, amazon, and tiger direct have very good customer service).

Do make sure to at least get an 80+ rated psu from antec, evga, corsair, seasonic, xfx or rosewill hive/capstone. PSUs are not made equal and there is not even a regulation that says it has to output its advertised wattage. Dont want to go cheap on the part that can destroy everything else.

If you list a budget and what parts you do/dont need I can make a build list for you.
Otherwise I would at least use www.pcpartpicker.com, they have a large assortment of vendors and will tell you who has the best price, as well as prevent any incompatibilities.

If you at all have the budget I would highly suggest getting an SSD drive for the boot drive. No other part will much such a big increase in performance for system boot speed and responisveness.

Thanks for reply. I will take on board your comments.

If you could come up with specific suggestions that would be great although not sure if me being in UK will be an issue! My budget is £200 and I am looking for Motherboard, CPU and RAM. I was thinking of getting 8GB, but, this maybe overkill for what I need and maybe 4GB will be sufficient.

Your thoughts will be much appreciated.

PS. Yes, I already have a SSD drive and, yes, it did make a massive difference!!!!
