Hello everyone!

I had two monitors until a few days ago, an AOC Q27G2U/BK and another one given from my job.
The one given from my job was the side monitor, not the main one directly in front of me but on its side, and now I have got the chance of replacing it with something I can decide. The reason behind this question is that I may use this chance to get something better than my current Q27G2U as main monitor, and make the Q27G2U eventually be my side one.

I am located in Europe, Netherlands and budget is max around 400 EUR .
I do play some game on my computer with my Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 WINDFORCE 8G and Ryzen 7 2700X . Hopefully upgrading soon to one of the new AMD threadrippers! Why? I do like to work with computer graphics (Blender) in my free time and do some nice 3D renders and animations.

Sooooo.. I would like to get something that still allows me to play decently eventually (Warzone or similar) but since that's not the priority I was thinking to go away for an IPS and more towards a VA due to its capability of giving real black pixels with higher contrast ratio. I never had an IPS before but that's what I am reading around. Plus playing Warzone (for example) on my current Q27G2U has been nice so far, and that Q27G2U is a VA monitor. Unless of course you help me finding a nice IPS with a good contrast ratio and then I would have the upper hand, gaining all the benefits of an IPS monitor including, if I understood well, that IPS' image quality due to its colors is much superior than a VA.. this would be a great benefit for my CG hobby!

Hence, I don't really know what to aim for. Only thing I know is that another 27 inches would align well with my current 27 inches haha.. I don't think I need a 4k monitor anyway since I cannot move further away from the main monitor in terms of sitting and plus I have read doubts over human limits of really perceiving the difference between a 4k and QHD.

I am in your hands! And thanks in advance :)

@ 16:9;
anything >32" i would recommend 2160p.
anything from 27-32" i would go for 1440p.

with possible budget limits, i'd probably be looking more at IPS.
with a larger budget, go OLED.
*i had spent quite a bit of time comparing VA & IPS both in shops and ordering different versions of different brands. in ~9/10 of comparisons the IPS panels had better overall color, contrast, and clarity in gaming and image editing over VA.
do the same; go to multiple stores that have options out on display to compare what's available.

with size, why not attempt an ultra-wide 21:9
or super ultra-wide 32:9 instead of multiple displays taking up more space?
my 3440-x1440 is perfect for multiple windows side-by-side and even better for gaming with the extra peripheral vision.

First of all thanks for your reply!
I believe you about IPS being overall better when it comes to colors. With this I believe you meant that, even though the contrast ration on IPS is lower than VA, the overall quality is still better with IPS. So contrast ratio is something we could eventually overlook overall and forget about.
And I trust you in all your research, that's why I am writing here and relying on you all :)

Having this said, you unlocked a new field in me alongside its related fear. I have worked always with 2 screens. I enjoy the fact of having directly in front of my eyes a screen with 1 page open (like a coding software, cause I am a programmer in my daily life) and on the other screen on the side something else.
With a 21:9 I "believe" that my overall experience would deteriorate. The screen would be big enough to have 3 different pages open, allowing me to have a main one right in front of my eyes and 2 on the sides. And yet these 3 pages taken singularly would bother me cause not big enough if sitting on the same screen. You would say: split it in 2 only then. I would answer: I don't like having the splitting right in front of my eyes unfortunately😆 I hate it also with my current 16:9 even though it's big enough to have of course 2 pages next to each other. But then the super ultra-wide would solve the problem.........I really have no experience with these screens so the fear is unlocked.
The question is, would my GPU still be sufficient? With the current relatively high settings I play Warzone on my 16:9 I still manage to hit somewhere around 100fps. How low would it go with a super ultra-wide screen? This is just a curiosity for myself cause I repeat what I said at the beginning: gaming is a good big plus but not the biggest priority.

Sorry for my super long message. If for a second we go back to 16:9 only and IPS screen, is there anything you would suggest for the budget I mentioned? Even a brand would help me going researching in some area and come back with some models to ask you about.

Last question: for a decent super ultra wide I believe we are much much over the budget, aren't we?

Thanks A LOT !

In the meantime I just looked for some active discount in the area and I found these if anyone knows/suggets/discourages them:

Anyone? 😗

After some research my brain is aiming at a AOC Q27G2S... what do you think? 😀
Close to the other monitor I have but IPS version.
I can't find any reviews of the IPS model but it looks decent. Here's another monitor to have a look at that was recently released.

Thanks for the reply and indeed I started having my eyes also on these LG ones :)
I actually had a look at the LG UltraGear 27GP850-B which is a bit more expensive on the one that you suggested cause it's the new nano IPS with bunch of more colors.
So I was considering this one.. what do you think?

I know it's out of budget but I had my eyes also on the related 4k version which is the 27GR93U-B.
I just can't say if the 4k is really worth it or not. Or even if my GPU can currently sustain that. Tips?

The only true 4K card imo is the RTX 4090 and those cards are expensive.

I revive this thread because at the end I decided to wait for Blackfriday due to its proximity and therefore some discounts which eventually arrived:)

So, the LG 27GP850-B went down from 350 EUR to 300 EUR
But also the MAG274QRF came down from 430 EUR to 350EUR.

You still would suggest the 27GP850-B ?
