Hi All,
I'm fairly sure my power supply is dying, and it seems to have already taken my hard drive with it :( (details here: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3626537/missing-operating-system-windows-harddrive-problem-issue.html#20636355 ) so I'm in the market for a new one of each. Here's my existing system:

Power Supply: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028
Hard Drive: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236625
Case: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129155
CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Memory: Team Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB TWIN FROZR Video Card
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)

Frankly, I mostly use this for torrenting live music, playing music, and web-browsing, so I'm not looking to upgrade anything I don't have to. I'd really appreciate it if anyone could suggest an appropriate PS and HD.

This PS seems reasonable, although I'm not 100% convinced it's compatible: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151201&ignorebbr=1
Given the heavy read/write load I put on my HD, I was wondering if something like this might be best: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822231534&ignorebbr=1

Any suggestions are very welcome and appreciated! This community helped me build this system - with the notable exception of the PS and HD ... which seem to be the things that failed. I've learned my lesson.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1345931-REG/seagate_st3000vxa10_skyhawk_3tb_3_5_internal.html along with https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139202 will handle your tasks at hand. That is a quality 2017 PSU and not something that'll cause collateral damage should it fail miserably. It can handle the GTX 1080 so it'll easily handle that 750Ti.

Thanks for the suggestions! One thing I didn't add is that I've got two additional internal drives. Is there any concern a 550W PS will be insufficient? Given that my existing PS is a 600W corsair, you can understand my hesitation in buying another corsair PS.

The PSU I recommended is the newest 2017 version that has been very well received by the public and biz reviews. I certainly am not attempting to define insanity. Same thing over and over and all that. No concern at all. You probably have no less than a 200W over-provision even if it had 6. That's also why I mentioned the 1080 which has a 180W TDP vs the 750's 60W TDP.
