the hdd i currently have is 8 years old and i should probably change it to a newer one to avoid problems now that i'm changing other parts that were as old, the pc is going to be https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jD29vV

the GPU is really the sapphire r9 290 but it wasen't a choice in pcpartpicker.
the one i have is a 1tb one, using ~400gb on it now, using it to play games via steam, and have only a few programs installed that i'm going to
transfer.

have windows 10 on it upgraded from 7 that was preinstalled, but i seem to remember it being possible to transfer it to a new pc some way.

any suggestions is appreciated
thanks in advance :)

Solution

An SSD is certainly a good option, but a 1TB hard drive costs around $50, while a 1TB SSD starts at around $250 for a lower-end model. And of course, they are only using around 400GB right now, so most of that space would probably be sitting around unused for quite some time. A ~500GB SSD might be a more reasonable option, since if they needed more space, they could always add an additional SSD later, or another regular hard drive for bulk storage, which doesn't benefit as much from the higher performance of an SSD.

True for the storage amount they are using right now, but I'd rather have some extra space up front. Personal preference I guess.
