Hi Everyone,

I'm planning to build a computer that I will upgrade next year so I can do 4k video editing. For now, the system only needs to be able to do HD video editing and photo editing of large photo images (40mb RAW from a Nikon D800).

Here's a link to my build plan: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/kwVB23

Processor: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

CPU Cooler Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler $37.05

Motherboard MSI Z170A GAMING M5 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard $248.98
Memory Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory $125.98
Storage Samsung 850 Pro Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $174.05
Samsung 950 PRO 256GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive $259.00
Case Azza GT1 ATX Full Tower Case $169.99
Power Supply Corsair RMx 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply $152.16
Wired Network Adapter Intel EXPI9301CTBLK 10/100/1000 Mbps PCI-Express x1 Netw Adapter $37.99

Hot-swap harddrive cage: Athena Power BP-TLA3051SAC 3.5" HDD Trayless Hot-Swap Backplane Module http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817995111&cm_re=backplane_module-_-17-995-111-_-Product

I will install five Seagate Enterprise NAS 4tb disks in the Athena hotswap cage in JBOD mode for storing and managing photos and video. Files will be backed up to a Thecus N5550 RAID 5.

To accommodate the Athena Power cage, DVD drive, Creative X-Fi interface unit, and a card reader/USB interface, I need a case with at least 6 external 5.25 drive bays in the front.

I have several questions.

1. Which case will be quieter and provide more convenient USB ports or other features:
a) COOLER MASTER Storm Series $200
b) AZZA CSAZ-GT 1 $170
I have no experience with either drive, but definitely want a quiet system.

2. Will the onboard graphics of the Core i7-6700K be enough to do HD video editing/rendering? Or will I need a graphics card?

3. If a graphics card is necessary, I want to be sure I get one powerful enough so that 4k editing will be possible with one, or if needed, two cards installed. Which graphics card will offer the best value/power combination?

4. Will a Samsung 950 M.2 256gb drive be significantly faster than a Samsung 850 Pro Series 256GB esata drive? The OS and all software and scratch folders will be installed on the SSD drive. Photos and video will be stored on.

Do you seen any oversights or have suggestions for a better selection of components?

Thanks for your guidance!

1)Azza has bad QC. I would go with a Fractal Define R5 or a NZXT H440...

2)It won't be powerful enough.

3)A 980/980 ti is good for 4k editing and gaming. You could get by with a 970, but your render times would be slower.

4) YES, it would be much faster than the eSATA drive.

Sorry everyone, I accidently double-posted this. Quite unintentional as my browser crashed leading me to believe it didnt' post.

1. Thanks for the suggesion on Fractal Define R5 or a NZXT H440. I'll check those out.
2. I think I'll just use the onboard graphics for a few months and if I'm dissatisfied, I'll get a GPU then. Hopefully prices will have dropped or there will be new better products by then.

4. I will definately go for the M.2 drive in that case.

Also, someone suggested a Haswell Core i7 5820k six-core processor! Would it offer significantly better performance than the new Skylake four-core 6700K? I frequently run a lot of programs at the same time: word processor, MaxQDA analysis software, video editor and 2 photo editing applications.

Yes, the six core would provide massive performance gains.
