I have been out of the PC world for about 4 years. I am looking to build a new Ryzen 7 1700X. Mostly because I can get one for $150. I will look to upgrade when the next version of the Ryzens come out. I would like to be able to game in 4K but that is not a priority right this minute. I am looking to get a system together to get my day job done. I would be fine with 1080p gaming for now. I do a good bit of rendering and a lot of content editing with Adobe products. Lots of lightroom work. I know the whole debate over Intel vs AMD. I have looked at benchmarks. I bought this processor because it benchmarks favorable in the programs I use and I can get away with some gaming. I would rather spend my money on a good gpu right now.

I am mainly looking for suggestions for:
Motherboard
RAM
GPU
Case
Water Cooler

Budget: $600 - $800 with Priority on MB/RAM

Here is what I have already:

Main HDD: Samsung 970 EVO 500GB - NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 SSD (MZ-V7E500BW) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BN4NJ2J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_TTg7BbNT2BWZC

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2, 80+ GOLD 750W
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IKDETOW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_gSg7BbFZ747M9

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700X Processor (YD170XBCAEWOF) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X3W9NGG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_5Yg7Bb0J4Z58Y

I will add larger HDD for media storage.

Thanks for your help.

Could you give us a budget? Do you have any preferences beyond performance targets?

Nice CPU choice. Thrifty, and nice for your applications. You don't need a lot of GPU for Lightroom, but you obviously do for games.

Here is a build based on the information you've given. I left the cooler portion blank. You definitely could get a liquid cooler, but it might eat up more money than you'd like. A cheaper one like the Corsair H55 might be fine ($60) if you strongly prefer liquid, but a nice 240mm cooler would really eat into the CPU savings.

The Radeon Vega GPUs are currently the cheapest route to serious 4K performance. A GTX 1080 would be good and obviously higher than that is better. The RTX 2070 looks good but there aren't many AIB options at $500.

I apologize for not providing a budget. I haven’t really put one together but I would say somewhere between $600 to $800 not counting media storage. I wanted to get good core components (MB/RAM). Upgrade the processor and GPU Later if I had too. My old system died (Massive Lighting Strike). So I am needing to get back up and running ASAP. So I would say priority to MB/RAM then other items.

Thanks.

Any AM4 socket should be good for chips released in the next three years. It looks like the difference between that X370 board and a comparable X470 board is $40-50, so it really just depends on what you want to spend. If you just want to get up and running without spending a lot, X370 will do it.
