I need a suitable subwoofer for Dell soundbar model AY511. I don't understand the audio requirements therefore I am attaching the following specifications for the speaker:

  • Audio System Nominal Output Power (Total)
    20 Watt
  • Frequency Response
    110 - 20000 Hz
  • Audio Amplifier
    integrated
  • Connectivity Technology
    wired
Kindly let me know as to what specification subwoofer should I buy. It need not be very accurate but should be compatible.

Solution
technically any active subwoofer with RCA inputs is supported
but since u have 20w sound system, u wont need anything too much powerfull
but theres minimum price difference between 100W subs and 400W subs
but on the other hand, if u take too strong sub, bass will be too much compared to your little tiny speakers, so teh volume would be quite low (on sub) to not messup your sound
subwoofer is there to enhance already existing bass, not to replace it, sinec u dont have any bass at all, u should look for small subwoofer which doesnt have any "eathquake" like sound output and offers crossover up to atleast 150Hz

I would take power specs with a (very big) grain off salt. You can't expected for a soundbar attached under a monitor, with small wall-wart power supply, to produce 20Watts music power.

If you go sopping for subwoofer: The soundbar does not provide for subwoofer connection. If you really need a subwoofer, look for one which has pass-tru audio ( so that you can daisy-chain the soundbar to it), or you'll need Y audio cable to split the source audio between subwoofer and soundbar.

If I was you - I would not put a lipstick on a pig.
