SUPER COOLER - 3200+, msi neo2 platinum

Hi Experts,

I am looking for a good cooler to overclock my cpu. I would like to get out as much as I can, but would like to stay with air cooling.

Read good things about the Thermal XP-90, (XP-120 does not fit my board) and the new Zalman CNPS 7000-7700 (they are too heavy).

I am really looking for the best of the best, please help me out, especially ones who have similar config for gaming (CS rulez):

Athlon 64 3200+
MSI Neo2 Platinum
1GB Mushkin Blue line
2x80GB Western Digital
Chaintech 6800GT
19" Samsung 997DF

I have a 7000-Cu on my Neo. They are large and heavy but with a metal back-plate they shouldn't be a problem. It cools good but damn close to memory slots and really crowds hard drive cage. A 7700 might be too large for this case. I would have to mount any drives in the upper cage above power supply.

The 7000 AlCu version is not that heavy, about 400 grams. Fits easily in most cases and on most mainboards without a backplate. You will however have to take out the mainboard to mount it.

The AlCu version is almost as good as the all copper version and about $ 10 cheaper. A good deal I think.

No matter what heatsink/fan combination you choose, you'll have to make sure that you have an optimal airflow in the case. Use a slot-cooler with the videocard to make sure all the heat from that one will be expelled directy out of the case.
A PSU with a bottom fan also does a lot to keep you cpu cool.

I think I am going to get the XP-90 with a high CFM fan, for example the Sunon 119CFM or Delta 120CFM.

Would you be able to recommend a high performance slot cooler for the 6800gt, and a good case fan (80 or 120mm)? Or instead of a new case fan, have my computer's side taken off?

What in the world are you thinking? If you don't use a backplate to mount this HTF are you going to do it? You have to put pressure on the CPU somehow. If you use the plastic plates instead of the metal you will have more flex in the board. Hey, maybe that's why this cooler comes stock with a METAL BACKPLATE!

It (7000 series) comes with a backplate but that's not to be used with all sockets.
The 478 doesn't use a backplate, neither does the 462 but I should have mentioned 754/939/940 do.

Correct. The socket 478 version mounts with a T-bar across the 478 cage. It would be impossible to put as much pressure on the P4 version than the AMD version due to the aluminum bar. You can really crank the AMD version down! (I have both)
