This may be a dumb question but I don't know TOOO much about this.
What is the point of super fast memory? I'm talking about anything above DDR2-800.
From what I understand it's best to have ur RAM and FSB synced to a 1:1 ratio. Is this true?
Except on a processor with 1600 FSB, what is the point in having anything higher than 800? Can many processors go past 400 bus speed even when their default is 333?

It seems to me there is almost no point in anything above 800 except for people who want to do extreme overclocking, or for very very high end rigs.
Maybe this is why I hear people saying no point in DDR3.

Well its pretty nice to have when overclocking. To get some actual stability out of my g*d damn 680i I have to overclock my 800 Mhz RAM to 900 Mhz to hit 3.6 Ghz on my E6750. Generally it does not matter, some really great 800 Mhz RAM with very tight timings is the sweat spot right now. DDR3 is not optimized right now, like DDR2 was when it first came out. When Deneb and Nehalem come out you will see plenty of performance boosts from DDR3, its just useless now at anything under 1800 Mhz, or 1600 Mhz with very tight timings. Having a 1:1 sync really does not matter much in the end, it is a very minimal performance boost. This was not a dumb question, we all started somewhere. Hell I still ask dumb questions, never be afraid to ask something, you need to learn somehow, as do we all.

Hmm makes sense. So are any of these good ram to go with right now?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=Property&Subcategory=147&Description=&Type=&N=2010170147&srchInDesc=&MinPrice=&MaxPrice=&Manufactory=8476&Manufactory=1666&Manufactory=1459&Manufactory=1550&Manufactory=1455&PropertyCodeValue=521%3A8080&PropertyCodeValue=523%3A15794&PropertyCodeValue=524%3A16064

I've heard getting 2x2gb is better than 4x1gb. And prices look great to me atm.

Is it better to get something with 4-4-4-15, I'm pretty sure that is tight timings? or will something like 5-5-5-15 be more stable?
I see one with 4-4-4-12.
The motherboard I am getting is the ASUS p5q-e

I'm not sure if I really asked what I want. I've read stuff about timings and such, I guess my question is more about overclocking.
WHy'd you need to up your RAM bus to make ur CPU go to 3.6 if you're not using a 1:1 ratio?
If you CAN use a 1:1 is that best? Or is it not necessary?

Thanks again.
