Hello, wondering if someone can help.

Until recently I was running superhub 2ac in modem mode and using netgear nighthawk as the main router. However my housemate needs his nighthawk back so now I'm trying to replace it with a superhub 3 which I had laying around.

I put the superhub 3 in router mode same as before however I am getting no internet connection. Not through ethernet or wifi.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks.

Your ISP may have "remembered" the MAC address of the previous router. Call your ISP and ask them to reset your connection so that the MAC address of the router will be allowed.
If that isn't the problem, then you need to open a cmd.exe window and run ipconfig.exe /all post the results.

Many thanks for your reply!

I called VM and supposedly they reset the connection from their end. At first it didn’t work but once I reset both devices, I am now getting a connection through ethernet.

However, no wifi. The networks do show up and I am able to connect to them, but no internet connection.

Another strange issue that I am now encountering is that I can’t access 192.168.0.1 via ethernet. It only works once I connect through wifi. Even though there is no internet connection through wifi, it allows me to access 192.168.0.1.

Any suggestions?

Thanks again.

That print is showing that you have a public IP address on ethernet. Your "router" is not acting like a router. It is acting like a modem. Your superhub 3 needs to be factory reset, assuming your PC is ethernet connected to the superhub3.

Hi,

I've reset the Superhub 3 again but still facing the same issue..

Yes, the PC is connected to the superhub 3 via ethernet.

Any idea what else might be causing this?

This is how the cables are plugged in, in case I've done this wrong. Purple one comes from the modem (superhub2) and the yellow one goes into the PC.

Thanks!

Yes, that does show the problem. That "router" is a combo modem/router. It does NOT have a WAN ethernet port. You need an ethernet router. As it is connected, it is acting like a switch only. That is why you have a public IP address.

Ohhhh right!! Good thing I posted the photo or I would have continued racking my brain :D thanks for that!

In that case, are you able to recommend a good ethernet router? For £100-150
(Is that enough for a decent one?)

I live in a 3 bed house set over 2 floors. It's not a huge house by any means but good wifi range would be nice.

It will not be used for gaming or streaming live TV but will be used for netflix, youtube and things like that. Also streaming footage from the security camera's NVR.

My main PC will always stay connected via ethernet but laptops and phones will be relying on wifi. We have a fairly fast connection (250mb) so ideally want to be making the most of it, but without breaking the bank haha

Thanks again! :)

I like Asus. The AC86U for example.
