So I am looking for Linux based OS that only serves the purpose of running google chrome.

A family member of mine recently bought a new laptop... and least not to say they're not the most competent web user... so we would like to keep their web browsing in an isolated virtual machine.

The laptop isn't brimming with horse power since its a Lenevo 300 17-ISK, with just an i3-6100u, and 4 GB of RAM, with a 500 GB HDD.

They expressly stated that they want to use Google Chrome in particular, and personally I am more familiar with Google Chrome also so I can offer more support when they need it. They don't live with me so I don't want to have to run over there to reinstall the VM every month. So hopefully there is a Linux Distro that is simple enough for them to do it themselves.

I tried BrowserLinux 501 earlier, and that was something similar to what I wanted, but it was super out of date and only had Firefox.

Ubuntu has Open/Libre Office as a part of the normal desktop load. It is compliant with MS Office formats as well.

Firefox is standard load as well.

I'm actually in the process of converting an older Lenovo ThinkPad x220i to Linux.
Capable of more than just running a browser, but Chromium OS is the open-sourced equivelant of Chrome OS so would serve the purpose.

If they're that limited as far as what they want to do with the laptop, is it possible to return the laptop? I would imagine a Chromebook being more 'fit for purpose', and likely a lot cheaper too!

They plan to do more with the laptop for various things like MS office stuff, music etc... you know normal productivity stuff. But they just don't trust themselves (and I don't trust them either) to not get viruses when they are web browsing on non-official work related stuff.
