Super Overheating Problem

Hello fellows,
I have an Intel quad core CPU and an Intel dg45id motherboard, which is giving me some problems since yesterday. The problem is that the cpu temperature is like 70+ when idle and touches 100 when i play a game or do something like that and the pc shutsdown.
I have checked the case, all fans are working and everything looks ok but i cant figure out whats causing the cpu to run at such a high temp. Please help me.

the cpu heatsink is 100% clogged with dust

I will try to replace the thermal paste,the CPU was bought in 2009 so i dont think it has ever been replaced. And yea I already cleaned the heat sinks and fans of all dust.

Yeah it will be old and dry by now, very common problem. Make sure you clean off all the old paste, you may need some alcohol.
