Hello Experts and Happy New Year,

So I have an older server that I use for home file storage and runs a couple apps. As the apps have been getting updated, I am seeing some performance issues. It was suggested that i look into upgrading CPUs. It currently has 2 single core AMD Opteron 250s:

The MB supports the AMD Opteron 285s (dual core) which came in the mail yesterday and was only 21$ shipped.

Question is, can I just swap out the CPUs? Or are there BIOS or some other settings that need to be considered?

Quick Reference:

installed CPUs: link

Inteded CPUs: link

Solution
If you BIOS isn't the latest, I would take the opportunity to update it. BUT, there isn't a list of BIOS releases on the SuperMicro page. So there isn't a good way to be sure. The latest BIOS on shows "R 1.1b" for the revision. You may already have the latest.
