Hello,

My supermicro x8dti-f motherboard is giving me so much pain in the last few days. I cannot open good amount of programs and that's what really bothers me. They won't open but still they run without any sign of CPU activity in task manager.
I searched the whole internet and found literally nothing about fix.

Specs:
OS Win10 LTSB / Win10 Enterprise (clean install, tried them both)
All drivers, redist c++ and directx are installed
Latest Bios version(Updated)

Supermicro X8DTI-F + Xeon x1
24GB Ram DDR3 ECC
HDD
Nvidia GTX 250 (I tried running them with both VGA and nvida graphics)

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Those are few programs which won't open:
Cpuz/cpuid/sandra/Fritz 16(chess program) ++

Reason why I posted in the motherboard section because I believe it have something to do with the BIOS.
If you got any suggestions please feel free to tell them. I'm desperate and open for any kind of ideas.

Solution
I've seen 20-30 mins to get to the installation screen using a slow flash drive on USB2 but not an hour personally. Does seem very off.

One quick thing, have you tried using Windows compatibility mode for the particular programs that are giving you problems?

I would consider parts testing after that. You've done all you can on the software and OS side of things, I think the board has issues. If you don't have another LGA1366 Xeon board available your options are get a shop to do a diagnostic for you although I'd doubt many would have one on hand that would work 1366 Xeon or try to scavenge another board. I honestly think it wouldn't be worth it though to replace any parts, it's such a legacy platform now with hardly any support...
"They won't open but still they run without any sign of CPU activity in task manager."

I can't quite understand what this means. When you click on CPUz, do you get:

- A new CPUz.exe process present in task manager? Is it in the processes tab?
- A GPU Window for the program?

How do you know if the program is running at all?

Do you have issues with other Windows programs like calculator or Internet Explorer?

CPUz won't use any CPU activity if the program isn't being used and the UI Window is minimized, this is normal. The program loads into memory but there is no GUI visible on screen, but if the progam is using RAM then it IS running.

Do you see a CPUz icon open in your task bar or system tray (bottom right)? You may have dragged the UI Window off screen. Try changing your display resoution and see if it shows up.

Click task view to the right of Cortana to open task view and see if it's there. Also see you have other desktops running and if CPUz is in there.

This board doesn't seem to have any Windows 10 or even 8 drivers aside from a generic LAN driver that will work on anything. This leads me to believe that Windows 10 isn't officially supported by this motherboard platform. Have you tried replicating this issue in Windows 7 or Windows 2008?

I don't think the motherboard or its BIOS has a problem as you aren't experiencing instability or crashing. This seems to be an issue within Windows 10 itself, possibly an issue with the particular programs themselves. Other programs work so the OS can load programs so the CPU/Memory/OSkrnl all work. In task manager when you start CPUz, does it just start at 0 CPU usage as soon as the program starts? Sort by CPU usage in task manager and see if CPUz uses any CPU when it first is opened/started. It should start high and then go down.

I'd try downloading CPUz portable and see if that works. I'd also try running CPUz portable off on a flash drive to see it will start from a different storage location.

Thank you for all your help!
I haven't tried 7 or 2008 and I will try them definitely and update you asap. It always starts with 0 CPU and 0disk usage( not only cpuz, but every program which won't run)

Unfortunately Windows 7 is having the same issue. The only thing which is left is Windows Server 2008 which I doubt it will fix the things....

I want to mention also that installation from USB (win10/win7) took too much time for some unknown reason.
Getting into the Setup menu is taking way more time than installing the windows.(1h) Very weird things....

If you installing over USB it possible took a long time because of USB 2 ports or a slow flash drive. It can be a sign of a hardware issue though. Either will add a long time to the install process when you are trying to get to the installation screen. Don't bother with 2008 if 7 doesn't even work with the 7 chipset drivers and everything from the Supermicro support page for that motherboard.

Very strange to see the same issue on Windows 7 fresh install and drivers.

A couple other ideas:

- Run the PC with only 1 stick of RAM
- Remove the graphics card physically and use the integrated if you didn't try this already and see if the issue occurs.

1 stick of RAM doesn't help nor VGA integrated.
About installing Windows from USB:
It took me 1 hour to get to the setup window(where you choose options;upgrade/clean install), not install process. Install process goes much faster than getting into the setup menu.....

I'm facing this kind of issue for the first time and I don't have an idea whats going on...

Intel stopped supporting this platform 8 years ago sadly, it may be time to upgrade.
