Hi, I have the Supermicro X8DTL-3F and for awhile now I have been operating it with just one Xeon E5645 and it worked great. However when I ordered another one and installed it, the computer turned on, but no post, sounds or anything. The CPU fan goes at max speed like there is something wrong. I have tried resetting the CMOS which is particularly tricking since you have to short two solded points ahah inside of a jumper. I am pretty sure the BIOS is up to date, and other than that, I am stumped. It may be a CPU socket problem or PSU problem.

To power the second CPU I used this:

(and yes this does work lol, I tried it out on two different computer including this one.)

Ohh sorry I didn't notice that. Thanks.

Also I used this PSU Cacualtor:
http://www.coolermaster.com/power-supply-calculator/
You enter in your parts and it gives you the about of wattage that system would take. I did mine and

Load Wattage: 415W

Recommended Wattage: 465W

That's why I was confused on why mine wouldn't work. Also I have noticed when I installed the 2nd CPU the graphics card does not power up even though it has a 6 pin power going to it? And both CPUs work, I am typing on the one that I thought didn't work right now :D

I get what your saying now. But do you have any idea why my motherboard is doing this?

I understand now. I did some research and found the difference between EPS12V and ATX12v supplies and such. I found this power supply http://www.ebay.com/itm/171823211381 do you think this would be fine? It has two cpu pin connecters and its rated for ATX12V and EPS12V

That is a "tier 2" PDU. I believe that will correct your power issues.

Well I did try the supply and it did not work. It still gave me no POST just fans spinning. The GPU card when turned on does not spin up but does when I unplug the second cpu pin and remove the 2nd cpu. My seller has stated that they have even tested it with a 700 watt pc power supply and even used xeon 5650s ones newer than mine.

Well! The issue was a short, since not all the holes in my case line up with the ones on the motherboard. Once I placed electrical tape on these, it worked perfectly. Thank you for all your help
