Basically in a nut shell i am going to be upgrading to ryzen and so far i have got a good list of components -a graphics card. However i haven't found any ram that specifies if it supports the chipset on my board and i was wandering if someone could help tell me if the G-Skill ram linked below would be compatible with the gigabyte mother board also linked below. Thanks

Aaron

The cpu of choice is also the ryzen 1600x

I totally understand your issue with the pricing. RAM prices are through the roof. It is pretty bad when a 1600 cost about as much as 16gb of RAM.

The RAM you selected is not on your motherboard's QVL. But that does not mean it does not work. It has just not been tested to work. It should work and I would buy it. If you have issues, take it back and try again. But I think you will be fine.
As stated above, if you want to be sure it will work, choose a model off of the QVL for your motherboard. However, just because it is not on the QVL list, does not mean it is not compatible. It just means the motherboard does not "officially" support it.

Given RAM prices, it may be difficult to find RAM on the QVL list at a reasonable price. So if you find a good deal on RAM that is not on the QVL, get it from a vendor that has a good return policy in case it does not work.

Ryzen does have some RAM compatibility issues, but a lot of that has been worked out. I would look for big name brand RAM, such as GSkill, Corsair, Crucial, and Kingston. These larger brand manufacturers will have better compatibility.

Additionally, the RAM you selected is a single 8gb stick and your motherboard is a dual channel board. There will be a loss in performance and may have stability issues running a single stick of RAM in a dual channel motherboard. I know that it is more expensive, but I suggest getting a 2 stick kit of 2x4gb of RAM. RAM speeds also make a difference with Ryzen due to infinity fabric. I would look at RAM speeds that are rated higher than 3000mhz, whereas the on you selected is 2666. Ryzen CPUs scale very well with high speed RAM and typically the cost of 2666 to 3000 or 3200 is negligible.

Thanks for pointing that out I didn't notice that it was 1 8GB stick i was going to get 4 GB like you suggested so i have found https://www.newegg.com/global/uk/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231868&cm_re=g.skill_ripjaws_4-_-20-231-868-_-Product&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=11552995&PID=7899552&SID= I'm assuming this should perform better. However my budget cannot stretch much further. Thanks Aaron
