I just signed up for Xfinity Blast package which is supposed to give me 105Mbps. I tried to do a speedtest wireless and I noticed that I only get about 20Mbps. So I hard-wired straight to the router and it jumped up to just under 90Mbps.

I am running a modem/router setup. My modem is the Surfboard SB6121 and my router is the Netgear WNDR3400v3.

My modem is connected directly to the router and my router is running both standard wireless network and 5GHz network. I live in an apartment so there is a lot of interference, that's why I'm running the 5GHz network. My 2.4GHz network is running on channel 8 (max is set to 145Mbps) and my 5GHz network is running on channel 48+52 (max is set to 300Mbps in network settings).

Anyone have any ideas why my wireless speed is much MUCH lower than what it should be? According to inSSIDer, my 5GHz network has 0 overlaps. I can provide more details if needed.

EDIT: Looks like it was going slow at that channel wired...I changed the channel of the 5GHz network to 153+157. My speeds jumped to 88.88Mbps Down and 12.18Mbps Up WIRED. Still only get about 16-20Mbps on wireless though 🙁

what device are you testing the wireless on? I know devices like tablets and phones can't always handle those fast speeds. I have Verizon 25/25 and a N300 Cisco and i only get like 15-20 on my phone.

Good thing you asked lol. I was checking on my laptop Lenovo Y70. But after reading your post, I checked on my Galaxy S5 with the Speedtest.net app and I got almost 90Mbps...It looks like only my Laptop is having problems reaching that speed.

I have a desktop computer also so I'm going to check on my desktop computer what kind of speed I get through wireless once I get home. Any ideas why my laptop is showing much slower speeds then my cell phone?

UPDATE: Looks like my desktop also shows only 20Mbps. Double checked my phone and it still picks up about 90Mbps. Any ideas?

Yea Wireless stuff can be pain in the butt at times. What kind of wifi card are you using? Also is it plugged into a USB 2.0 port if it is a USB wifi card? if it is a USB card that would make sense as USB 2.0 max speed is 35MBps that isn't including overhead though.

I don't necessarily have a wifi card, it is built into my Maximum V Extreme motherboard. If you look closely at the image in the link, there's a mPCIe Combo Dual-Band wifi adapter. But from reading more it looks like it is USB 2.0.

Any reason why my laptop would be running this slow as well?
