I've thought about that as well, with all the pre-diplomacy and all. It
almost makes me think I should do one of the following for the next
PettingZoo game:
1) Set up Grudge Match sessions. Something like 2 peeps go head to head, or
2 teams of 2, or 3 fodders vs one "8+" player, etc. Got a beef with
someone? Challenge them to a grudge match. You both name the terms and
conditions for the game setup, update times, update speed, game parameters,
etc. From anything from a 10min/update weekend blitz, to a 90minute/update
weeklong shagfest with updates disabled from midnite to 8am so you can
sleep, to a 8+ hour/update slugfest (can't let the game last too long so
that the next match can begin shortly thereafter), or something in between!
Wanna start at nuke tech, no problem! If you name your details, I could
accommodate, everything but the rumored new option LOOSE_SHEEP (ask Temekula
about this one, eewe) is possible. These could also serve as good "filler"
games while StarWartz2 is going on.
2) Set up a long term pre-diplomacy game. Might be tough to coordinate who
is on who's team, but basically 10+ people sign up. Either I assign
everyone to teams by my ability to "balance them", or we vote on 2 captains
who then get to pick their teammates (like in elementary school kickball).
You are then allied with all your teammates, and at war with the opposing
team. Serves as a great learning/coaching opportunity for the new players,
while ensures that the game will have lots of battles. Some issues to
resolve, like what to do if one of your teammates has to bail for personal
reasons, which could tilt the balance.
BTW, PettingZooTwo is well underway, we're 29 updates into the action, and
half of the players have been [nearly] eliminated. Check out the action at
sheepfarm.game-host.org 6665. Visitor account is open for peeps to drop by
and share their latest sheep jokes, stories, or romps.
