Hello,

So for the past couple of days, I have been getting numerous blue screens ranging from IQRL NOT LESS THAN EQUAL and kernel blue screens. I managed to reset the PC and find my way around these errors, to the point where they rarely pop up. However, last night, as I was just browsing the internet, the power went out due to a thunderstorm. I had to wait until the following morning in order to actually look at my computer. I quickly realized that it wouldn't boot up because my SSD was messed up or something. I'm not really sure why. I boot windows up and ran into a BAD POOL COOLER blue screen, then after that I thought my computer was bricked. It was just stuck on boot up, black screen with white circle (Windows loading screen), then saying windows couldn't boot. So I had to do a TOTALLY NEW FRESH INSTALL of windows and everything is working fine. My question is, will a surge protector like

protect my computer AND protect windows from having a boot up disaster? I'm totally confused and what I can do to prevent this from happening again. I will stay clear of using my computer during a thunderstorm.

I have this power strip / "surge protector" : https://www.amazon.com/Monster-MP-Protector-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B00003CWDG (It's discontinued)

BTW, I built this computer around November of 2017, which has Ryzen 3 1200, 16 GB 2400MHz RAM, 500W EVGA Power Supply, and MSI Gaming Pro Motherboard. Non-activated Windows 10 Pro

Thank you so much.

Solution
The issue with your OS was the result of an improper shutdown; likely while the system was in the process of writing something to disk. Those "Surge Protectors" won't do a thing to resolve this. What you want is an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). One of these, provided it can provide sufficient power to your system, will automatically switch from wall outlet to battery backup in the event of a power loss.

They are not designed to allow you to keep working. Depending on the size, they'll give you a few minutes to allow you to save your work and safely power down the system.
