I started playing Hitman: Absolution today and, was surprised to find that my system was only getting around 30fps -- sometimes as low as 24fps, on the first mission. It would occasionally jump to 50 but was averaging closer to 30. This was on medium settings.

ASROCK Z87 Extreme3 mobo
i5-4670 3.4 GHz
GTX 760 2GB Windforce
8 GB RAM
650 W PSU
500 GB HD
Zalman 4 fan case
Samsung 21.5? 1920 x 1080 monitor
Windows 7

While not a huge deal, as the game doesn't seem to be very fast paced, it is still far below what I expected, even with an "older" card like the 760, it is still quite capable of far better on most games. I mean, my 760 did even better on Metro 2033 (40fps average, maxed), a notorisouly demanding game, and chewed through Bioshock Infinite like it was Doom.

What gives?

Solution
Try:
- Updating your drivers through Nvidia GeForce Experience, which you can download from their website.
- Play around with graphics settings, but in particular shadow and resolution; also view distance sometimes and AA.
- Make sure your power options are set to "Performance" or "High Performance" or similar. Especially on laptops.
- Make sure you're not having high temperatures, which could throttle your hardware, by downloading utilities like CPU-Z and GPU-Z.
- Not running too many background programs while playing.
- Play around with V-Sync, as it can sometimes help stabilise things. The worst is when FPS jumps and thus makes things stutter.

Solution
Turns out it was just a matter of updating the drivers in GeForce Experience, and going with the Optimized settings therein,
namely everything on Ultra except for Anti-Aliasing, which is at 2X.

Now getting 50fps average in the built-in benchmark.

Where did you get the idea that I assume my 760 can handle Ultra on every game?

I don't expect that at all, but a 3rd person stealth game from 2012? Yeah, was hoping it would, and it turns out it nearly does.

The title never changed.

I actually have no idea, sorry.
