Of course it is, that's how I have configured audio on my TV just in case surround sound packs up, so listeners will still be able to hear something through TV speakers (if I'm not at home when surround sound packs up my wife wouldn't know what to do to get sound back otherwise).

Thanks for the reply Philip, I'm hopefully going to connect pc speakers to the optical output on the TV and use a optical to aux converter, then stick the speakers near my grandads chair because he's hard of hearing and run the TV speakers simultaneously, save turning the TV way up. Thanks again
