Hello there, I'm totally a newbie to the overclocking world, however, I managed to overclock my cpu to 5GHz (i5-8600K) but I didn't notice a huge performance change, when I say huge I mean the expected 4 to 10 fps difference, plus, I managed to overclock it with 1.28v with a motherboard that has a really bad reputation in this community, the MSI Z370 Gaming plus, not only that I managed to overclock it to this amount of GHz by only using 1.28v, the temps are really really making me suspicious towards this overclock, 55c peak in a stress test of 10 minutes, compared to h100i v2 who had 82c peak (https://youtu.be/LvIudPHLiog?t=3m14s), it really made me suspect that my overclock is just a total bs or I've done something that I shouldn't have done or I shouldn't have done something that I should've done (yeah I know you were struggling reading what I've just said :D)
Specs:
CPU: i5-8600k
GPU: GTX 1060 Asus dual 6GB
Motherboard: Z370 Gaming plus
cooler: Cryorig A40 Ultimate

Here are some result of 3D Mark Time Spy,
Stock cpu & gpu: https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/26696790
Overclocked cpu & stock gpu: https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/26696633

Overclocking settings for cpu:
I just changed the cpu ratio to 50, and the cpu volt to 1.280
Stress test if you guys are interested in both the temps and the stability:

It would be totally appreciated from you guys if you help me notice something wrong with my overclocking settings or results, I've been trying to find what's wrong but I'm totally clueless to this overclocking world, any help is totally appreciated <3

*I'll try to change the volt to 1.275 and check if the overclock will work, if it does, then it must be something wrong because there is no way this motherboard could handle such voltages lol

Well that's right and logical yet I haven't thought about it, thanks, one thing to mention regarding the voltage, I've set the voltage to 1.265 yet the pc still works, I'm totally blown out how could this still work even though the motherboard reputation is under the ground (T R A S H)? https://i.imgur.com/Wg1ZTIf.png I don't know if you guys could conclude something from this picture... is there anything wrong?

Most reviewers work with a sample size of one unless they've had exceptionally bad luck with their first board/CPU and had to get one or more others to complete their benchmark runs. You can't draw conclusions from a limited number of reviews and general conclusions/expectations based on appearance.

Most boards from top-tier manufacturers are pretty good, even the budget-oriented models when used within the limits of what they were designed for can last for a very long time. I've never bought into premium enthusiast motherboards and RAM, yet all of my systems have achieved 10+ years of flawless operation aside from failed overclocks, defective new RAM and a handful of HDD crashes.

You have a very good CPU. To verify, run CineBench R15 and check your single CPU score against other 8600K scores and that should tell you where you are and if that is a valid overclock. Personally I think you are okay as I have seen some 8600k and 8700K's run at very low voltages for 5GHz overclocks...As InvalidError says, most tier one motherboiard manufactures Motherboards, even mid range are more than good enough...

4.7 GHZ @ 1.2 Volt: 1147
5.0 GHZ @ 1.300 Volt: 1238
5.0 GHZ @ 1.260 Volt: 1236
5.0 GHZ @ 1.240 Volt: 1237
5.0 GHZ @ 1.230 Volt: 1238
5.0 GHZ @ 1.225 Volt: 1236
5.0 GHZ @ 1.220 Volt: 1221 (Tried multiple times to make sure)
5.0 GHZ @ 1.200 Volt: Crashed

I've compared this result to this article: http://asknotes.com/2018/02/18/new-pc-build-and-overclo...
and It seemed like the background application effected his test, but aside from this, what's your thoughts on these results?

You are right in the ballpark for an overclocked 8600K so you are good...Great vcore for your overclocks...1.220 volts at 5GHz is just wow!!!
