Hello,

Hello,

Recently iv'e noticed that the services under "Local system", have been taking up increased RAM of my laptop, making it slow. After a little more research, I found out that all of those services were linked to svchost.exe. Now, I know that svchost.exe is a Windows process, but I don't recall it hogging my PC this much!

It keeps increasing its memory usage by 200-500kb every second and never stops! I checked whether Windows Update was running, but it wasn't! I tried to kill the process svchost.exe from task manager, but it just came back in 5 minutes! (starting from scratch though). Now I can't tell whether this is normal, or something's wrong. I had to restart my PC when it reached 3GB RAM usage because everything starting running slow

This started happening since 10/08/2016.

Things iv'e tried so far:

1. Ran virus scan via Avast (got nothing)
2. Ran Malwarebytes to check for Malware (got nothing)
3. System restored to 10/02/2016 (didnt change anything)
4. Clean up and uninstall anything iv'e recently installed
5. Closing my wifi to check if it were a download, so it would stop. (it wasn't)

The only recent change i did on the same day this svchost problem started was, I switched to a new ISP.

Below I added an image of what I mean. Note, this goes a lot higher than 1GB of RAM over time!

Please tell me what I can do. Thank you so much for your time!

Sincerely,
Raghav.

Svchost is a windows service that hosts other services. It bundles them together and obfuscates them. This was started in Windows 2000 as a way to conserve on memory so that services could share common resources.

What is happening is a service that svchost is hosting is taking up resources. You need to figure out what service that is.

In a new windows build they will be disabling svchost so that you can see each service rather than having them bundled, tehn it would be easy to see which is running away with your computer.
