when I turn on pc I try to open anything it is very laggy. I goto my task master and check running processes and it says svchost is using 99% of cpu resources? I end the process and everything runs better. the question i'm asking I guess is why is this doing this, and what can I do to prevent it, other than what steps im doing already?

This is just microsofts way of trying to punish users for not updating their software to a newer version, figure they'll ruin XP and walk away in a couple of months and hope everyone jumps on the Win 8 bandwagon.

I'm actually surprised they are working on finding a fix for this now for an OS from 2001 that's 3 versions behind their current one. It's nice to have all those XP machines working as they were when new, but you just can't keep developing for an OS that a company no longer sells and has already been supported for over a decade. It's like complaining that Ford no longer makes new engines for the 2001 Taurus.

If I had any computers on XP running (and all my systems were XP up to about 2 years ago), I'd just turn of Windows Update and run it manually every week.

I don't care if they still support it but the issue is they broke this themselves. I think it may well have been intentional to try to get as many to switch as possible before they go dark on XP. I'm not complaining they are about to stop the support. But they actually broke this there is a difference. Ford wouldn't put out a service bulletin for 2001 Tauruses (what is the plural version?) to put saw dust in the oil in hopes of selling more new fords.

I believe the plural is "Tauri" 😛 but ive turned off Auto-update and am in process of DL Malware-bytes. *crosses fingers* I just use this old rig to play games on anymore, but its hard to let go of ur first love.

Yep my first full out gaming rig I build 8 years ago died a peaceful death in its sleep (I shut it down, came back a week later and it wouldn't power on) Almost shed a tear for that thing as I've spent more time on it over the last 8 years than I have with any woman including my wife, whom I met 4 years after the computer was in my life lol (granted she gets much more attention than it does now)

Mondeo ? isn't that the euro version of ford Taurus? and imo Taurus SHO was the only Taurus worth driving, unless u happened upon one from the original 'Robocop', which if not mistaken was also an SHO, but I believe modified for the movie.

Yes pretty much. Body is a bit different as you can imagine since the Taurus died a while back. Wow this has gotten way off topic... though I do think the OP got help so I don't feel too bad.

Yeah, it's mostly been replaced by the Duratec 35 (sometimes ecoboosted), or the little turbo i4 (ecoboosted). On another note, I'm pretty sure they didn't make a SHO version of the Taurus in the early 2000's, just the weak ass vulcan and the more appropriately powered duratec options. I miss my '02 taurus . . . I've been forcibly changed to a minivan by forces beyond my control. I really want to drive a comfy old guy sedan again.

Nah, just the significant other wanted an SUV or other huge lumbering thing and I want a sedan, so we started looking for a kind of smallish SUV/Crossover/hatchbacky/wagon/something practical and it just happened that there was a really great deal on a used van so we grabbed that instead. Now, the SO doesn't want to switch from a van anymore since it's so useful so we recently moved on to our second one. It's comfy and useful, but so boring to drive. I think I'm stuck for good now unless we start running 2 vehicles.

Lol that stinks... maybe you can convince her into a smaller SUV that would be more interesting to drive, I had to talk my wife out of a Tahoe into a 4runner and that wasn't easy... then the new ones came out and hell they are just as big as a dang Tahoe.
