I have Windows 8.1 on my computer and currently whenever I connect to the Internet, the svchost.exe process sticks at 25%. I understand that this is probably to do with Windows Update as I have had this problem with Windows 7. I have resolved this before by manually downloading certain updates from the Microsoft website(KB3020369 and KB3172605) and installing them with Windows Update deactivated. I was then able to check for and download updates as normal. I was wondering if this problem could be resolved the same way?

I last installed updates on the Windows 8.1 computer on 19th November 2016. Has there been an update or updates which were released after this time which I could manually download and install which would fix this problem in the same way? I would then check for remaining updates after that.

Hi, I've had this problem before too in 7 and 8.1. Have you disabled windows update from starting up in the services menu? An easy way to achieve this is go to your charms menu click search and type administrative tools, click that and scroll down to services and click on that, then you want to scroll down to near the bottom to windows update. Right click on it and choose properties. Look for the words startup type and choose disabled. The next time you start your pc it shouldn't be running. I usually don't bother with windows updates unless there is a huge problem that can only be solved by updating. This worked for me and hopefully it works for you. Cheers!
