Will I be able to swap my 1 TB HDD with a 960 GB SSD on my HP Envy laptop. I plan to do a clean install of Windows 10. I can't imagine a size restriction from a HDD to a SSD but I see a lot of strange posts saying you can only go as large as 256 or 512 GB. Sounds strange to me Thanks.

Solution
all the HP bloatware

That is specifically the problem. I've seen brand new Toshiba and HP laptops that are basically unusable right out of the box.
Competing Registry checking tool, AV, some 'Protection' thing....
Power on, and it was unusable for the first 2 hours, and 'slow' after that.

A clean install of the OS...poof...a whole new system.

Thanks to both. That's what I figured but saw some strange specs saying only 256 or 512 gb would work. I am not really up on my laptops. I build and repair desktops. Even with the i7 cpu my daughters college laptop was still slow which I figure is all the HP bloatware. A new SSD and clean install will fix it. It didn't bother her but I knew for an i7 and 8gb of RAM it should be a lot faster. Thanks again.

I plan to do it in a day or two. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks to all.

She has it at college but I believe I used a Samsung 840 or 850 EVO. Any brand will work with it.
