Hey, I was wondering if it's possible to swap motherboards on notebooks that are from the same family line? For example Asus GL502VT can swap motherboards with GL502VS? Both moderboards are almost the same except some very minor differences.
I don't mind some casing modifications.
Thank you.

It may not be the case where you experience problems, it may be the peripheral components. For instance: the processor heatsink/fan assemblies usually have custom formed heat pipes to conduct the heat to fins where the fan is located to exhaust heat. If the processor is located in even a slightly different location it may no long attach correctly or allow the heat pipes to route around other large components that become obstructions. Same could be true of things like WiFi sub-assy: the RF cables going to the antennae may no longer reach to the new location, or be too long and interfere in the tiny spaces allowed.

I don't have any help for it, just that you need to watch out for those types of pitfalls too.

Yeah the heat pipe assembly is my only concern as it's slightly different, but the remaining vital components are in the same place on both boards.

Buying an upgraded board from the same family line can save a lot of money (if it fits decently) instead of buying a new notebook... the whole pc would cost around 2000€ while the motherboard alone only 500-600 + 100 for the display if needed.

And I assume you've already confirmed battery and charger are compatible too?

If you consider it worth the chance then good luck with fitting it!

They share the same ec adapter and batteries ar almost identical.
I'm not gonna attempt it now as the heat pipe system is not for sale online at the moment.
